We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Rizo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Hi and thank you for this opportunity to share in my very colorful journey as an entertainer.

Being in the entertainment business for well over twenty years, whether as a teen, published print model or in the last decade plus, becoming an established commercial actress and standup comedian, I’ve had a lot to juggle and find the balance of work and life along the way.

Whether having lulls career wise needing to create supplemental income or personal hardships, like the loss of both parents, it’s always been somewhat of a juggling act. If there is anything I’ve truly learned over the years is to prioritize my mental and physical health, without having either I can perform at my high test level.

Now a new mother, prioritizing my daughters immediate needs for her well-being along with my own, is often a day to day struggle, but I’ve actually incorporated her into the business as well. Which has had its benefits as well as hardships.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well as I stated before I’ve been actively pursuing the art of achieving onscreen success as a tv and film actress, a published lifestyles print model and more recently a standup comedian, while producing my own shows and curating my own brand along the way.

Along the pursuit of the above I have had many ventures to feed the beast if you will, but never diverting the path for too long or too deep. Such ventures, over the years, have included commodities trading, management in a mortgage capacity, working in different areas of banking, and lending, landscape design and sales, even homeownership at 22 years young. A feet in itself, I’m very proud of.

I’ve really learned if anything to never give up on whatever you are most passionate about. From watching documentaries and or reading books from some of the worlds elite entrepreneurs like Jeff Besos, and Sean Carter, is no matter hardships you suffer along the way “keep freaking going,” it’s somewhat that simple.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well being that I, myself am only two years into the beautiful desert state of Arizona, by way of California, I would have to do more venturing myself before I would remotely consider myself a good tour guide. I have enjoyed the restaurant and bar scene quite a bit of the downtown Phoenix area, but I was pregnant my nearly entire first year here, then quickly welcomed a beautiful babygirl who’s become quite the focus as of late.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Again thank you for the interview. I would like to shoutout, my agents and managers, past and present, for believing in me, even when I’ve struggled with belief in myself. Id also like to shoutout the real ones in my life who’ve genuinely rooted me on, and encouraged me through the darkest of my days, they know who they are.
