We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimena Elizabeth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jimena, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Ever since I was young, I’ve been told I have an incredible imagination. Growing up I would struggle with subjects in school. Such as math, or science. But, I would always stand out as a creative. All my life, I have gravitated towards all art. It is what interests me the most. Hence why I pursued something that comes so natural to me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Setting yourself apart from other photographers seems like and important and a difficult thing to do at first. because, when you’re starting, you feel lost. you might find it easier to go along with what everyone else is doing and play it safe. But that is not what art is. At first, not having photography style would frustrate me tremendously. I would spend hours on social media; comparing myself to other artists. not realizing that what I was seeing was only the results of a long and hard journey. Artist choose to take the high risk of failure. It is a very scary road to take. But, there is something so noble about, despite of failure, wanting to make others happy for a living. Whenever I feel beat and burned out I think of all the people I’ve made smile because of what I do. My photos have captured thousands of special moments that hold great sentimental value for many for years to come. My photos are beautiful and timeless. I am yet to be where I want to. Fortunately for me, I love what I do. And that forces me to become greater. I am an artist.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sedona is my special place. There is just something mystical about it. From it’s gorgeous, red mountains. to the warmth of the local people. There is just not another place like it. it feels almost unreal.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The very first person who believed in me and has mentored me over the years has been Zander, founder of Love + You and I. He’s got my complete gartitud and admiration.
