We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Kaplan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I enjoyed bartending at concerts & sporting events but wanted to have control over what I made and how I could make everyone’s events special. Why work for someone else when you can work for yourself. I wanted to focus on doing things the right way & making all about providing the best possible service.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Bar Is Open AZ was started with all parents who were trying to support their kids in competitive sports. We all became friends through our kids & teams. It was all like a family. We brought professionalism, hard work, enthusiasm & fun to the events we did. I made sure that we always went above & beyond what the average bartending companies would do. Create a special menu, focus on the small details to make a wedding, 40th birthday party or bachelorette special.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I first had this idea to do fun, friendly & experienced mobile bartending, I started talking to my friend Guy. He had experience bartending, mixology and doing events. We decided to do this business together & he always motivated me, gave advice and shared his knowledge. What he really showed me was doing a service business is all about building relationships & proving excellent customer service. Ultimately, my family supported my decision and always assisted me anytime I needed help. I actually started this so I could pay for my daughter’s all-star cheer.
