We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Patton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Mostly the thought process behind wanting to have my own business was so that I could build a larger art portfolio while trying to make a living doing so. With my Deadnecks project that I’ve been plugging away at for the past 10 years being the main focus. Deadnecks is a comic series in the works based around the wacked out antics of a family of mindless backwoods zombies. Inspired by 80’s horror and 90’s cartoons the world of Deadnecks stretches far beyond your average comic with a wild blend of media from 2D art to hyper stylized sculptures, sets, props, puppets, and many other practical effects based methods to create a fun and nostalgic, but new world! By utilizing all of those methods in this one larger project my job never stays the same and I always have something interesting and new to work on. However, I’m not always able to make a living off of my Deadnecks project as its still in its growing stages. When I’m not working on Deadnecks, I’m usually working on commissions for private collectors, bands, haunted attractions, or anyone who might need sculpting, molding, painting, or fabricating services.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to my work I’m just trying to create something new that I would’ve loved to have seen or been into while growing up. With that being said alot of my stuff is heavily inspired by the things I loved when I was younger with everything from tv shows like Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, and Courage the Cowardly Dog, to movies like Evil Dead, Ghostbusters, and Mars Attacks. Not to mention all of the cool toys and commercials from the 90’s! My style started out mostly just for fun and to entertain myself while a lot of my other work was more creature and monster movie based. Over time my more animated characters slowly gained popularity and I was able to gradually make more and more new characters and develop new stories over the years. There’s been a lot of ups and downs with this Deadnecks project and plenty of things have tried to extinguish it over the years, but the idea of Deadnecks and the whole world of it is deep rooted into my brain and I cant stop adding to it and developing new stories and characters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I was living in Pittsburgh there where plenty of cool nature trails, waterfalls, and scenic areas to adventure to that I would try to visit regularly. When it came to food I was always a big fan of the Mad Mex restaurants around the city because of their food and the cool themed artwork all over the walls. If you’re into amusement parks you’ve also got Kennywood right up the river, that’s always fun especially around Halloween. All of that and grilling with some friends in the backyard would make for a pretty good week.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout my journey of trying to “make it” as an artist I’ve always had an immense amount of encouraging support from friends and family to keep pushing forward while working towards my goals. As well as the support from anyone who has ever bought any of my art! Without that I wouldn’t be able to continue creating and furthering this world of characters, and for that I’m forever grateful!
