We had the good fortune of connecting with poulett morales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi poulett, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
well, that’s a good question , because after coming back from my master in europe, my family almost die when i told them i didn`t want to follow the family business, i wanted to do my own thing,, be know from me and not for been the daugther or the niece of someone else. My family had furniture stores, very well known in Panama. i grow up between fabrics, colors, texxtiles ect.. in that moment i wanted to have a boutique, so i promise my self to be the best one in town, since my family was not very happy about it. and i did DHD is the name of my boutique since 1999

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
i learn that the best position in life is to be in our knees on the floor, because from there, theres no other way, just to GO UP. i was at church praying for a miracle, and asking God to give me a way out after all the debts that trial left me. So i heard a Voice that said, “GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS” i couldn’t understand what that meant . i thought at that moment in 2 panamenian icons that remind me about my roots, I reach them both one never answer and the other one came to see me and said to me if i was crazy to put a panamenian restaurant in second floor, with no view to a main street, in a residential area.. i just told him that i need it to follow my business intuition, From that moment i started to learn everything about my country, traveling from one end to the other, thru different provinces i gat the opportunity to meet a lot of people, with a LOT OF NEED, and with A LOT OF TALENT, so i decide to make them all part of this proyect giving them the opportunity to become micro entrepeneurs. Easy, nothing is easy, for everything you have to be diligent, whoever wants to get rich has to be dilligent, in another words go one more mile. LA FONDA started with 2 tables, just to really see what people liked, then i was hired to make a big party, but guess what, i had no gas to cook the food, instead of complaining i built a wood oven with 8 blocks, some rocks and sticks, it was so funny becasue the neighbors even call the fireman, the smoke of the wood was so dense that they though we were on fire, i was so embarres of the smell, But then i realize that what doesnt kill you makes you stronger, people came in the restaurant and when back to there roots..

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
off course the best place to start with would be LA FONDA PANAMA, IT’S A FUN PLACE, to be, where you can interact with the folcklore dancers, the musicians, and other guests…. the food is delicious and a 100 percent panamenian. and you can find any dish depending in your desire three influences the first one indian , second spanish and third the afrontillan. It is a satire of what Panama really is in the interior, and beside that you can snapshot our History since our beginings .
for me the next best place to take them is Casco Viejo, to take a look of the story and beautifull roof tops for a drink and appetizers, for me the best one is CASA CASCO roof top, there is a new Hotel were youi can hang out HOTEL LA COMPAÑIA. another spot were you must go is PARRILLADA JIMMY a traditional spot were you can eat delicious panamenian seafood
a most go is Bocas del Toro or San blas depending on your budget, san blas you can go for during the day and expirience there culture, there food and the ocean at the atlantic side. .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
i have a lot of mentors, the first one my Mother, beacuse she never lie to me, making me think life was easy, she introduce me my best friend Jesus, who has been my support thrue my rollercoaster life. offcourse my Tia Luz, is my aunt, she has been like a second mother to me, she showed me to follow my dreams, my grand mother who showed me that family comes first and if things are not right between use, always stick together. and offcourse the injustice of the goverment of ex president Juan carlos Varela, that pushed me to come up with this bussines LA FONDA after loosing everything, including my grandmother heritage.
