Meet Danielle Ganon: Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Ganon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by my culture, heritage, and community. I am who I am because of them. Because these three factors shaped me, I dedicate all. of my work to them. I draw inspiration not just from the traditions and the people themselves but also from things like nature that are still linked to them. That’s why I named my small business Southwest Sampaguita (the Filipino word for the Philippine Jasmine flower) in honor of where I currently live and where I came from.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the biggest lessons I learned along the way is just to do it. Make your art, practice, and rest. Look for inspiration around you. Call. yourself an artist even if you don’t think you’re good enough. Keep pushing the boundaries of your imagination. However, to focus on action doesn’t mean you have to push yourself to exhaustion. Rest is important as well. After the breaks I take, I jump back into my work with a new perspective and more ideas to execute. So recharge, create, and keep believing yourself. Also, charge your worth!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Papago Park to look at the beautiful view of the red rocks, the plants at the botanical garden, and the animals at the zoo. Then, we’d get a drink from one of my favorite boba spots, Tea Swirl, and walk around Tempe Town Lake. Another food spot I love to go to is Kuka Izakaya. Their sushi is fantastic! I think that art galleries and installations are always a good time. I love Wonderspaces and the Phoenix Art Museum!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my artist friends who encourage and inspire me every day, not only creatively but emotionally. I wouldn’t be where I am without their support and love.
