We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Suess and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I began selling my music on burnt CDs when I was 16 and charging fees to perform live shows by 18 or 19 and after three or four years of this and studying marketing and business in college, not to mention having an entrepreneur for a father, it was a no brainer. So I created my own record label with my partner in rhyme. Basically the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do is make my music global and I’m really good at it so why not create a business so I can make a living and generate income doing what I love

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
IWas introduced to hip-hop around six years old but my older cousin Nick. I immediately took to the music and knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Now with my mom being from Long Island New York and my dad from Chicago and growing up in Denver, I feel God putting me in Wyoming with the ability to create music the entire world would listen to just shows He’s got a great sense of humor! I became an artist only after I became a fan, branching out to many artists in the genre from LL Cool J, Snoop (Doggy Dogg) Wu Tang, DMX, Nas, Biggie, 2pac, No Limit, and more, I had acquired quite a bit of influence from the many different sub genres of Rap/HipHop. Bring in Wyoming, I was able to adopt characteristics from each of these areas. Confidence and Presence from the West Coast. Multi Syllabic Rhymes and Smooth Flow from the East Coast. Punchlines and Rawness from The South. Speed and Exquisite Pronunciation from the Midwest. I molded what I liked and developed myself as an artist being influenced by every aspect of the culture until I was able to go live in the environments of NYC, Chicago, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Denver, & more major metropolitan US cities performing, networking, building, and following my bliss! I have achieved so much with my music its almost unbelievable when I sit down and think for a moment what I’ve actually done. Played in 43 states! Signed Haystak as well as Big V of Nappy Roots to the label in which I played a role in developing since day 1 (RhymeSick) I thank God every day for allowing me such opportunities and I look forward to the many more yet to come! At the end of the day I say chase your dream. It’s gonna be tough. But if you truly follow what you want to do and dedicate yourself to becoming what you set out to be, you will make it because God will take care of you. You’ll remain happy. You’ll remain fed clothed and taken care of. I know why I was put on this earth and that is to Rap. If you know what you’re supposed to be when you grow up and you’re not doing just that, I suggest you Go For It! Don’t look back. Make your Dreams A Reality .

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly this is depends where I’m at if I’m in Wy I’m gonna take them to the mountains or the lake or two nice quiet trail where there’s nobody around so we can watch the sunrise or the sunset and just really be grateful for the bigger picture. If I’m in Denver there’s 1 million places we can go such as studios concerts great places to eat etc. etc. Now I’ve been in many places in the United States and I live in many US cities I’m a type a person that can find a dope spot for A dope time without any struggle. I talk to my network I reach out I smile I pray I laugh and I rap like somebody in your top 10 so I guarantee you have a good time

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God. My Mom. My Dad. My Sister Demitra. My Brother Ian. My “Lil Mamacita”. My Partner In Rhyme AlpHaMatic. My Fans. Everyone who has been there since day one showing love support and encouragement from Fans to Venues to haters. I continue to do what I love and make music and perform music because of the continued support and Love I receive.
