We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Muzzy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue an artistic career for a few reasons. One was because I have been drawing/creating many forms of art ever since I can remember. It’s always been a positive outlet for me so it made sense to chase down that goal of becoming an artist as my career. I had other jobs growing up and always had issues with wearing uniforms or having to just be on someone else’s time or look the way they want me to. During my time as a janitor for an elementary school I had gotten a tattoo machine from Amazon to try and pursue that dream on the side. I wasn’t very happy as a janitor but also didn’t want to be an at home tattoo artist but never had the time to apprentice so I almost gave up that dream. Eventually the school district laid off all janitors that were full time and at that time I decided to jump into an apprenticeship to chase my dream down. It was a rough start, not making much money, working around a lot of unmotivated artists who never gave much constructive criticism and just not knowing where this was going to go. But I had a vision and I was going to manifest that into reality. Back then I created a name for my brand that I said I would use when I became more skilled and had more of an audience for my artwork. I called it “Geometric DreamZ’ because I’ve always been drawn to geometric patterns and thought it fit me and what I wanted to create. So now I years into this journey I have my brand going and I’m steady building it daily. I couldn’t be happier to see my progress and seeing myself make this dream a reality. I will keep learning and growing my brand/career because I feel there is always something to be learned or improved upon. I’m grateful for where I’m at and excited to see what the future holds!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art comes from a lot of what I see inside my minds eye. I see a lot of geometric/isometrics in dreams and on psychedelic journeys. I know this art is entrained in me and it feels as if I’m supposed to be creating this type of artwork. I’m very proud of myself for sticking to this journey and never giving up even in moments of great frustration. Staying dedicated and willing to learn and enhance my knowledge has kept me on a path of growth. It was not the easiest and I still feel I have quite the journey left for I never feel like you can learn enough. I just want the world to know that I’m here to create things I see within and then manifest them into reality and I hope it can provide some healing for this world we live in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had to choose a place to bring a close friend in this area I would probably take them to Mount Lemmon for some hiking or camping. It’s always fun to just relax and vibe in nature, and there is a great temperature drop upon that mountain so it’s a nice escape from the heat of the summer. But if I had the choice to go somewhere not in my area I would take them somewhere where there’s more greenery like Oregon or even Colorado. Denver is calling my name for sure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The owner of the shop I work for currently took me in when I was desperate to find a reliable new place to work since my first shop was not an ideal place for growth. His name is Gee and he has helped me become the confident artist I am today. He for sure deserves a shout out! Another big artist I look up to as well is Mike Cole. He’s been someone I’ve watching since I first started my career and now a days we are friends and he helps me on ways I can’t get from anyone else so he also deserves a nice shout out!
