We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Oring and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Financially betting on myself. Purchasing the right equipment and editing tools wasn’t cheap. But I had faith in my abilities that the investment was worth the risk.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It took me a few years to find my eye, to find what makes me feel like I’m creating something unique and has value. There were many moments where I had to reminder myself to create what I feel, not what I think others will like. I’ve my share have photographic missteps to be sure, but they’ve lead me to what I now love shooting. I finally realized what makes my soul, my heart happiest, is body positive photography. I am completely entranced and addicted to how it makes me feel when an image I help create makes the model feel as as strong, as sexy, as confident and as empowering as they truly are. The images I am most proud of, the ones that make my heart skip a beat, are those. I’m not an emotional person, but the times that models have talked to me about how our image we created have made them feel, it totally chokes me up. I know, cheesy af. But it’s true.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I hate to say it, but not here in Phoenix, lol. If I had a week with a friend, we are going on a road trip up the Cali coast. highway 1 all the way up to Oregon. It’s too gorgeous not to!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s only one person that I would like to give a little love to here, my father. His unwavering faith in me and constant encouragement meant more to me than I realized when he was alive. It motivates me, even to this day.
