We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Colbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The mission of Arizona Sustainability Alliance is to create and support cutting-edge, project-based sustainability solutions for Arizona communities. AZSA focuses on five sustainability priority areas: sustainable food systems, renewable energy, conservation, urban forestry, and cities. AZSA projects and programs are high-impact, prioritizing vulnerable communities to create sustainable solutions for Arizonans.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a sustainability and environmental educator, I love working with educators and students to teach and learn about how to make the world a better place. Every day is an opportunity for action. From garden workdays to tree plantings to classroom visits and field trips, taking part in sustainability and environmental education is exciting and impactful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge fan of The Farm at South Mountain! It is a beautiful space with delicious food and great views of one of the mountain ranges in the Valley. My favorite place to grab tacos is also one of my favorite music venues – Crescent Ballroom in Downtown Phoenix.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Arizona Sustainability Alliance would not be the organization it is today without the support and dedication of our amazing volunteers!
