We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Collom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, what do you attribute your success to?
I say with no hyperbole, other people. Whether it be my success or the company’s, none of it would have ever been possible without other people. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along the way is people tend to become like those they hang around with the most. “Show me your top 5 friends incomes and I can likely guess yours” is what the old school business authors say. I have been fortunate over the years to be around an incredibly diverse peer group and to have had incredibly talented and intelligent mentors, continuing to today. While I have made more mistakes than I can remember, other people have saved me countless setbacks in life. Not to mention, we are incredibly blessed at CharterJets Inc. with the team and company culture we have. Everyone is very passionate about safety and our clients experience. Without them, we would not be building the incredible reputation we are.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart from 99% of our competitors is our safety ratings, continually trained advisors, and truly personalized service. We are undergoing audits for the two highest tier safety ratings in the industry. We have already been approved for the first tier and we are voluntarily going through these stringent on-site audits and in-person testing as our clients safety is and always will be our number one priority. We want to ensure everyone that comes in contact with CharterJets Inc. knows how committed to safety we are as well as how knowledgeable and experienced our team is. Once awarded in the next month or two our name will be synonymous with highest safety ratings in private aviation with ARGUS and Wyvern Certified Ratings.
All of our Aviation Advisors go through yearly safety training and furthered education to ensure constant progression. Also, this one is abused as a lot of companies claim “personalized service” meanwhile they send you through a phone tree to 5 different departments and always email you from general “operations” inbox without putting a single name on any of them. We detest such systems. Each client is assigned a dedicated Aviation Advisor for all their needs, 24/7. A single of point of contact. Simplicity at its finest.
None of it is easy, but all of it is incredibly fulfilling and worthwhile. Everyday there is something exciting and challenging to be a part of and assist with. Anytime we encounter challenges, we come together as a team and they’ll review solutions with their Senior Advisors for guidance. And behind the scenes, our Operations’ and Concierge Teams’ consistently go above and beyond to ensure every last flight detail, from catering to car & yacht rentals, has been reviewed under a microscope to ensure the most seamless travel experience available in private aviation. Sometimes, the best things in life are things you never even thought of to ask for and that is how we create unforgettable experiences each and every flight.
The main thing I’d like everyone to know about CharterJets Inc. is while we are incredibly advanced technologically, we are old fashioned in a sense of personalized service along with “Our Word is Our Bond”. We are incredibly transparent and upfront about everything start to finish. There are no hidden fees or “initiation fees” with us. Our clients have unfettered aircraft access each and every flight while knowing the exact total cost prior to stepping foot on the aircraft. (Side note: if de-icing is required that is billed at-cost after the flight, as well as any additional pet cleaning fees if necessary).
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would have them stay at either Sanctuary or the Phoenician. One day must be dedicated to experiencing the spa / resort / property. Another day I would take them golfing at Raven or Papago Golf Club. Trip wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Rustler’s Rooste, the restaurant where I tried Rattle Snake for the first time. That was back in 1993 at my 5th birthday party when we lived in Glendale. My Dad was still a reserve police officer for Phoenix Police Department at that time, still have his uniform. But for the sports fans I would make sure they experienced a Suns or Coyotes game. And can’t forget my Dad’s alma mater, a Sun Devils Football game! I would also recommend a hike on Camelback to see the Hole In the Rock and immerse themselves in the gorgeous surroundings. Really just depends on who is visiting but there is something cool for everyone to check out and explore.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely, first my family; Dad, Mom, Brother, and close family friends. We moved constantly and were incredibly close growing up and thanks to them and our experiences, I am incredibly strong and resilient. My parents are incredibly smart in business so they made me do sales pitches growing up for new sports equipment I needed for the upcoming year or an extra $20 I needed on the field trip to be able to purchase some of that rare and healthy “Astronaut Ice-Cream”. If it was half-assed I would get sent back to the “office” (my room) to start over and try again. Without my core family and our close friends I would have never developed the sense of humor I have as well.
I would also like to give a large portion of credit to the AA / NA / Sober Community. Without their guidance and support I would have never been able to get clean. The people I met and connected with truly changed my life and helped me leave some self-defeating behaviors in the past for good.
