We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Speers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am still at the earliest stage of migrating my artwork to a business. It was a gradual process to get to this point. For several years, I focused on the expression and development of the art itself. Selling was not a priority. I was very content just creating and growing. I reached a point last year, where I just felt ready for the next stage of the development, and this year 2022 I will be showing for the first time

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The development of my art has gone through cycles and experiments of style, but it always resulted in coming back home. Home for me is the Brandywine Tradition of painting. This is my natural style and I think largely because it is my natural home. It is where I live and grew up. I was fortunate to live in the environment and culture that fueled the art of the many amazing Brandywine Artists. It also fuels my aesthetic and feel. I study those great artists because I have so much to learn from them. What I paint is not an imitation, but it is a shared inspiration

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some unique offerings I enjoy in my area are the Brandywine River Museum, Valley Forge Park, and Longwood Gardens. The Philadelphia Area offers so much to do and see

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife has been very supportive of my art. Growing as an artist would’ve been impossible without her support (and allowing me to steal a corner in our living room to paint in). My parents have always encouraged me and tried for me to see the potential in what we could do. The rest of my family is supportive as well and I have a few friends that helped me push past some doubts and hard stages.

I was fortunate to have some fine art teachers: Finch, Good, Sneddon, Everhart, who’s passion for what they did emanated to me.

Recently the very talented artist, Michael Miller, lent his hand and has taught me so much about getting my art out there. He has been more gracious with his advice than I ever expected someone to be

I’m thankful for and acknowledge the skills God provided me with. I work hard and do my best, but I can tell that the results are not of my exclusive efforts
