We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaleigh Marks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaleigh, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
By the end of my career, I honestly have the biggest vision for myself. First and foremost, I plan on progressing Lez Get Baked into the Marijuana Industry. We have been working incredibly hard for almost 3 years now to get under a THC license enabling us to create the most delicious edibles on the market with a sustainable approach. We also plan to expand Lez Get Baked across the USA.
I am currently working with a few partners to also launch a restaurant/meal prep/catering company here within the next few months offering a savory menu of both Italian and Latin inspired dishes. Our goal is to launch the restaurant into the cannabis industry as well. We know the industry is lacking options within Arizona for quality infused meals and we want to be the ones to offer them. We all have such a passion for food and providing patients with the most quality products. So, I am really looking forward to this next move.
The biggest goal I have for myself, and the reason I started as an entrepreneur is because I want to start a non profit helping foster children. Growing up a foster child myself, I not only want to inspire foster children, but I want to support their success in every way I can. The non profit will focus on promoting education and support while they are still in school, as well as when they age out. We want to provide services to help if they want to go to college and or start their own businesses.
Once I have all three companies up, I plan to set up a Bed and Breakfast in Mexico living my best life on the beach doing what I love. Cooking and living a simple life with my toes in the sand.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Here at Lez Get Baked, we are very proud to be an openly LGBTQ bakery offering the highest quality desserts with a fun approach to our desserts. We bake everything from marijuana themed cakes, gourmet brownies, Retro VaJay cupcakes, and everything in between. Everything we make is made entirely from scratch with a sustainable approach. We also offer hemp derived Nano CBD infused upgrades with our product line as well as with custom orders. We are most proud of the quality of our products as well as the fact that we use a sustainable approach to our packaging.
Lez Get Baked was the first business I had ever created & I did it without any help for the first 2 years. After a car accident in 2020, I had received my first traumatic brain injury with swelling on the front and back of my brain due to the speed of impact the man hit me with. I went from being an honor student to barely able to form sentences, blacking out 4 times a day. I almost lost my business entirely because I simply was incapable of functioning. It is not the same as working for an employer where you can take sick time, I still had a business to run. Lez Get Baked was my only source of income at the time of the accident. The only thing I knew was that I could not give up on my dreams, and I decided that it was time to hire my first employee. I did quite a few interviews for the position and hired the most amazing human I could have ever been blessed with, Angela Bishop.
I learned that it is ok to need help, to know our limits, and that taking time for our mental/physical health is just as vital as working hard. Prior to the accident, I hadn’t taken a day off since I had started by business back in 2019. What I learned through all of this is that I needed to go with the flow, I let go of my need to control every outcome. I was a perfectionist prior to the accident and quickly realized I couldn’t meet my own standards. I believed that if I thought everything through from every possible angle that I could avoid issues. But that is so far from the truth. The truth is, no matter how much you prepare and think things through, issues will arise. It’s all about how you handle them and not giving up on your dream. Take things as they come, be kind to yourself, and never stop believing in yourself despite issues that may arise. Every goal you meet needs to be celebrated, otherwise you will burn yourself out.
Things happen everyday that can deter us from our dreams all the time, but it is up to us to keep them alive. I had every reason to give up, but I knew in my heart that I was meant for great things. To be great we must work through whatever life throws our way, and that is just what I did. I found peace in my capabilities, created an amazing team, and refused to give up on myself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was not already from Arizona, I would say that I would make sure to take them to a few places. 1. Charlies in Phoenix! It is by far the best gay bar in the area. 2. Fossil Creek in Strawberry, Arizona because it is such a beautiful and peaceful hike. 3. The Pizza Peoples Pub in Central Phoenix. Great place for Pizza, Wine, and honestly the best Mac and Cheese around. 4. Casa Carazon in Central Phoenix, literally the best salsa bar around and their food is phenomenal. 5. South Mountain, because the view is just breath taking.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my Shout Out to a few people because honestly, I have the most amazing team right now! I am blessed beyond words for the individuals surrounding me. Jakseni, you have been rooting for me since day 1 and I greatly appreciate your continued love and support. I’ve wanted to give up so many times and you always seem to remind me of how far I have really come in the last 3 years. Thank you for that. Angela, you started as an assistant and have worked your way into my heart. You are by far one of the most amazing humans I’ve ever met. You come in to work everyday ready to go, doing things before I even think of them, and you always go above and beyond. I cannot say how much I truly appreciate you and all of your dedication. I am excited to see you grow with us, you have been such a blessing. Quon, one of the smartest and most amazing individuals I’ve ever met. I’m proud to call you my mentor and business partner. You have shown me that there are truly people out there that care more about the patients in the industry than pure greed. I look forward to everything that is to come with you on my team. Lastly, to every single person that has been supporting me along my journey. We have come such a long way since we started and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of the people believing in me.
