We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Podrasky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
First, thank you for this opportunity!
One sunny Arizona morning, I walked into a venue as a set up assistant for a friend of mine who owns one of the premiere wedding floral businesses in the Valley. As we were setting up, I could see the mother of the bride pacing while on the phone. I could hear bits of her side of the conversation, and it appeared that the cake was delayed. Poor gal was frustrated and upset, and I knew that the photographer was waiting for her to resume photos. My heart went out to her. It was awful timing to realize that she needed a help.
I had already worked as a venue coordinator for several years, and as with this Saturday set up, I had also dabbled in other realms of the wedding industry. I truly felt moved to begin educating whomever I was able that hiring an experienced planner/coordinator was the best investment for a sanity-forward, peace-filled wedding day.
KDP Events was born on April 20, 2014 out of that passion.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m thrilled that the passion to educate couples of the importance of wedding planning has evolved and grown along with the way couples conduct most of modern life.
Rachel Leintz of RLP and I have just launched Wed&Done. Wed&Done is a nearly-all online wedding planning business to meet the needs of couples who want a streamlined and fun approach to the wedding planning process.
KDP Events is still the boutique and tailored wedding planning company, but the launch of Wed&Done will reach couples who don’t have time to vet or attend countless vendor meetings, discuss the difference between pink and blush, or just simply prefer to use our online tools to plan a beautiful event.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Best time ever?!? There’s a song that says it best, “Home is her favorite restaurant”. Indeed! Food is love, and I love to try out new recipes on friends and family. Next in line, traveling to someplace new! Traveling excites me. My husband is my favorite companion. We just returned from a trip to Portugal! Ahmazing! But my favorite city so far is Paris.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
