We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Rosenfeld and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karen, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I come from a long line of artists. Just to name a few, my grandma is a painter, my dad is a photographer, and my brother is an animator. I’ve been practicing art for as long as I can remember and have had a camera in my hand since I was 12. I always like to say that I have my dad’s photographic eye. When I was older, four years of high school art classes were planned my freshman year to ensure I reached the higher levels in senior year. But it’s been a long road to get where I am now. I changed careers, jobs, plans again and again. Constantly battled imposter syndrome. You would laugh at how many different positions I have worked and different directions I went in. However, I always came back to art and my creativity.

One thing I always tell myself is that it’s important to pursue what you’re passionate about, and the road to get there can be as winding as it needs to be. This is what makes me happy. I am excited to wake up in the morning and start my day. Of course, like any career, there are the not so fun days, but the sense of purpose and accomplishment I feel far outweigh the bad. This is what I am meant to do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artistic interests include photography, filmography, graphic design, and web design. I love creating in each medium and how their paths can so easily cross to make beautiful and interesting art. My main interest is photography and everything else branched out from there as I learned more. For photography, I specialize in documentary-style so naturally when I started traveling my camera came along with me. Photography has always made that exploration even more fun and helped me end up in places that I would have least expected. There is something about a camera being in your hand that pushes you to explore that hidden spot, walk that extra mile, and improve your patience when waiting for something amazing.

I am so proud of what I have worked on over the years and excited for what the future must hold as I step up my professional work. In the past it has not been easy, and I know there are many more obstacles to overcome, but it helps to think of everything as an adventure. Life would be boring if there weren’t some bumps in the road. That is how I came up with one of my brands, The Everyday Adventure. When you start to think of everything as an adventure, it makes life a little more exciting.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Arizona was an amazing stop on my west coast road trip in November 2020 and I recommend it to anyone doing a similar trip. My visit started in Page, AZ to see the infamous horseshoe bend. I arrived late at night and had the best view of the stars on the way there. Somewhere with minimal light pollution is something I always get excited about being from just outside New York City. I had a quick dinner at R.D.’s Drive-In which was so delicious and did a little self-drive tour of the town. The next day was spent at Horseshoe Bend in the morning and The Grand Canyon at sunset. I couldn’t have asked for a better day. I spent the evening at the south rim, visiting various viewpoints along the ridge. Watching the sun go down beyond the canyon made it turn into the prettiest colors. I spent the night in Flagstaff and had the best tacos from Los Gordos Mexican Food. My last day in Arizona was spent driving down the iconic Route 66 towards California and stopping in historic Seligman to see what it had to offer. It was so fun to look at all of the memorabilia and, of course, check out the shops. I had the best time in Arizona, and I highly recommend visiting. I will definitely be back to see even more and spend more time revisiting places I’ve already been to.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am lucky enough to have so many people in my life that I can depend on for support and inspiration. I consider myself a very independent person but I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my friends and family.
