We had the good fortune of connecting with Katherine Sanchez, Chelsea Matteson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katherine Sanchez and Chelsea Matteson, what role has risk played in your life or career?
After working together for three years, we found ourselves envisioning taking a leap of faith, branching out, and starting our own practice in Scottsdale. Little did we know, we were both pregnant and knew that we were about to embark on two very exciting journeys: Being moms and early career psychologists as we made the bold move to open our own practice while on maternity leave! It was one of the biggest risks we’ve ever taken, resigning from a secure job to chase after our professional dream, but we were determined to become our own bosses and make a meaningful impact on the families we serve. Starting on this new and uncertain venture felt even more daunting because we were both expanding our families and putting everything on the line to pursue this goal. Thankfully, we trusted our intuition despite the potential risks, and have had a successful launch serving families across the valley to get their lives back on track.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are a Child and Teen Psychologist and Neuropsychologist team in Scottsdale, Arizona and provide evaluations and specialized therapy for children, teens, young adults, and families. Our practice is centered around offering therapeutic approaches that are solidly based on research and have been shown to be effective and practical, so that therapy doesn’t have to be a lifelong commitment. Instead, our families see change and feel rewarded as they witness their child flourish. Our hope is that we can walk side-by-side with families while offering them the tools that they need to help their children thrive.
We offer effective therapy for anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety, phobias, OCD, perfectionism/rigidity), teen depression, and young child ADHD and disruptive behaviors. Additionally, if your child is struggling at school or you’ve had parent gut-feeling that there is something else going on, we also specialize in formal and child-focused evaluations for ADHD, learning differences, Autism, giftedness/2E, and other neurodevelopmental concerns.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our parents, who have paved the way to where we are today, and who have taught us the meaning of a strong work-ethic, integrity, and grit. Our families have always been our backbone and continue to be as we embark on this journey to build a meaningful, thriving, and successful practice.
