We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Mustard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business was always about being more available for my kids. I was working a 9-5 job as a social worker and I had 2 young children at home. My oldest at the time would comment on how I was always working and it just broke my heart. We could no longer afford daycare so we made the decision to have me quit my job and do something to make money while working from home. I had no intention of building a wedding planning business but God just plopped it in my lap so I ran with it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Cedar and Sage Weddings is a luxury wedding planning company here in Arizona. It was been a slow crawl to get where we are but we have learned so much through the journey. We love to really get to know the couples we serve and often times we are great friends long after their wedding is finished. I think the key to our success is knowing there is always more to learn. The second you think you know it all you stop growing and we want to continue to grow and find better ways to serve our clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Arizona has so much beauty to offer so I would want to take them out in nature. Go for hikes at the Superstition Mountains, take a dinner cruise on The Dolly at Canyon Lake, take a day trip to explore Sedona, and just spend time enjoying the outdoors,

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have met so many incredible vendors in this industry very early on and they have encouraged me and pushed me to do great things. That imposter syndrome likes to creep in from time to time but these ladies are my biggest cheerleaders and just keep pushing me forward!
