We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Schulz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, do you have a budget? How do you make lifestyle and spending decisions?
Living full time in a Camper you have to have a budget and stick to it 100%. We try to work camp our way around the US so we live rent free.
Our income is always changing based on how long we are on the road and how long we are parked.
When we are on the road , we rely on my Etsy Shop. When we are parked we rely on our hours worked.
It’s a nerve racking balance at times but you only live once. Your only young once.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being on the road full time has its advantages and disadvantages. But one huge plus is the company we work for ! Cracker Barrel Old Country Store
I started out as a kid , one of my first jobs . After 8 years I married a military man and transferred everywhere we got stationed. Cracker Barrel’s are nationwide. You only have to be employed for 30 days in order to transfer anywhere in the US.
After Waylon medically retired from the Navy he joined the barrel team with me . We have now worked in 4 states ;Arizona , Mississippi(2 stores) , Virginia & 4 stores in Florida.

We also have our small business we take everywhere on the road with us!
YoYo Girl Aprons
I design 3-Way Aprons! Started this company in 2008 as a vender at the Riverside arts Market and various festivals in the south.
We ship worldwide from our Etsy shop !
We also do art festivals seasonally . The biggest show we do is Christmas made in the South by Carolinashows.com. It’s huge , multiple locations and the largest Art Festival in the south.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The AWESOME thing about seeing the world 🌎, anyone you love can fly to where we are at and vacation with us at 1/2 the cost ! My best friend since middle school flew to Arizona from Virginia this passed September. We checked out Sedona, Grand Canyon , Horseshoe Bend , Antelope Canyon , & The Narrows in Utah !
Memories that will last a lifetime !

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Coconino National Forest

Arizona is the furthest we have travelled west, and by far the most beautiful natural state I have scene . We would not have come out here if it hadn’t been for the Staff at the Flagstaff Ranger Station in the Coconino Forest.
We were invited to work camp June – October of 2022. My husband got to be a volunteer Ranger and loved every second of it. We also were able to live rent free! Huge plus when you are on the road.
But the experience we gained working the forest , getting to know the staff , and living off the land ……. This meant the world to us. We can’t wait to go back one day !
