We had the good fortune of connecting with Khynna Barker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khynna, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
So many things in life don’t happen over night or with little work. I think to give up now would be such a waste of potential. When you have a plan or vision it takes some time to get there, and to map out how to get there. Since we all measure our own success that is how you would know when your business or journey needs to pivot or be replaced by something else.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Running a business big or small is a lot more work than you would think. In a world where you share aspects of your life and may be looking to social media when starting a business is a little misleading. There is so much you need to know and think of when running a business. From sellers license, taxes, inventory, and websites you are always having to keep up with something. I think have weekly checklists have been the most helpful in keeping all of these different aspects in check. Also asking people in your same business feilds for pointers or things they wish they knew. There is also mini courses online you can take about best business practices. At the beginning I felt really behind the curve and found that my website was the biggest challenge. Now, I feel with the help of others and research I feel to have a better knowledge and handle on business (admittedly I have more to learn).

When people shop at Magdalene and Company I hope that it is felt the time and care I put into everything. Through websites, social media, and merchandise. I hope that my faith is also shown in the way I conduct business and talk to costumers!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Flagstaff and Sedona! We would go on hikes, pink keep tours, and ATV-ing for our main activities. We would have to go to pizziacleti in Flagstaff and get Açaí bowls in Sedona. When we are not out exploring I would definitely have all the board games and charcuterie boards!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother deserves a lot of praise! She pushes me to not only follow my dreams but to push through trials. Without her Magdalene and Company would not be where it is today.
