We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Syverson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Pursuing an artistic or creative career came naturally! I have always been a creative person and think outside of the box, even at a young age.

While growing up, my parents would let my brother and I decorate our own bedrooms! I had different styles, colors and themes for my room and it was constantly changing. For example, in 6th grade, my room had a 1950’s vibe with peach and mint colors. While in high school, my room had a Mickey Mouse theme. I was made fun of a lot, but I didn’t care! My family encouraged me.

As I became older, I worked regular full time jobs. On the side, I made various types of handmade cards for family and friends and two scrapbooks. My husband bought me a nice camera as a birthday present to take pictures for the scrapbooks! He encouraged me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
About three years ago, I started a new project making jewelry. I made bracelets and earrings as presents for birthdays and holidays. The gifters would wear the pieces and people would compliment the jewelry! I was encouraged to sell the handmade jewelry.

In 2019, I started the Esty shop for Coastal Kim! I was nervous about the shop, since I didn’t know if people would like the designs enough to purchase them. It took a few months, but people started noticing the unqiue jewelry. My daughter, Britney, is involved being my “Color Coordinator.” She loves to help pick out the colors!

The items in the shop have a bohemian, beach vibe with roots from Arizona. I use various gemstones native to Arizona in most of the pieces! Two bestselling pieces were inspired by the cities of Sedona and Bisbee.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would love to take them to Hula’s Modern Tiki for a fun dinner. Go for a drive along the Apache Trail and stop for lunch at a restaurant by the lake. Afterwards, go out and adventure along a trail. Drive up to Sedona and spend the day there. The same for Prescott. Take in some history while visiting Tombstone and Bisbee.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to make a shoutout to my parents, for encouraging me to use my creativity at a young age!

I would also like to make a shoutout to my husband, Tyson, and my daughter, Britney for helping me when I have a creative block and encouraging me to keep going!
