We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristi Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristi, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
It’s been my experience that if I put my faith and family first, everything else usually works itself out.

I’m also a big believer in the idea that there are “seasons” to a person’s life: Before our children were born I worked full time, as did my husband. When our children came along, I left the workforce to stay home and meet our children’s emotional and developmental needs. Work-from-home and other flexible work arrangements weren’t as common then as they are now. It was only when our youngest started pre-school that I decided to re-enter the workforce and I specifically chose the fitness industry because of the scheduling flexibility and childcare options it offered.

Now that our oldest has her driver’s license and can help with family transportation duties (a HUGE game changer, by the way), I’m finding that I’m able to accept more work responsibilities.

That being said, though, there are still many career opportunities I’ve had to pass on in an effort to keep my children’s needs the top priority in my life. But I try to remember that I only get the opportunity to raise my kids once.
What should our readers know about your business?
FeeltheBeat Fitness, LLC is a fitness content company.

I create super fun workouts that are set to real music (not fitness mixes). My workout playlists consist of songs that people actually recognize and can sing along to–Ed Sheeran, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, BTS, etc–not just monotonous bass beats thumping in the background. Each song on the workout playlist focuses on a different part of the body and the movements are perfectly matched with the tone of the song creating an experience that is just as energizing as it is effective.

I teach these classes in-person for two major gym chains in the Phoenix area–Mountainside Fitness & EoS Fitness. My workouts are also available for at-home, On-Demand viewing on the FeeltheBeat Fitness Channel on Recess.tv.

What I’m most proud of are the comments that I receive from participants. “That was so much fun!” is the most common response I receive. “I can’t believe how fast that class went by,” is the second most common response. When people actually enjoy their workout, they’ll do it more often and when people are more consistent in their exercise habits, the health benefits always follow. So, in a nutshell, I make fitness FUN!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question because I actually have two high school friends who, prior to the pandemic, would come to visit me yearly!

First–the food. Mexican is a must when my friends come to town and my favorite restaurants include Masquedores, Backyard Taco, and Casa da Mina in Queen Creek. Barrio Cafe in Phoenix is on the itinerary for their next trip. For dessert: Frost Gelato at San Tan Mall and the Butter Cake at Mastro’s City Hall in Scottsdale. If we get a chance to go out to breakfast then Eggstacy in Chandler and Gilbert House in Gilbert are definitely on the list but I also love to serve my friends homemade orange ricotta pancakes with fresh oranges from my neighbor’s tree at home, too.

The outdoors–We’re an active group and LOVE to talk so hiking is almost always requested. The Mormon Trail at South Mountain is a favorite as are the Stargazer, Moonlight, and Hedgehog trails at San Tan Regional Park. All those trails are strenuous enough to increase the heart rate but not so tough that it will keep you from carrying on conversations.

The sights–my favorite place in all of Phoenix is the Desert Botanical Gardens. I’ve taken my friends there twice and they keep asking to go back. Other attractions they’ve enjoyed in the past are the Phoenix Art Museum, Scottsdale Museum for Contemporary Arts, Taliesin West and the Mesa Temple grounds and Visitors Center. I’d love to take them to see Torvea Castle and the Wrigley Mansion, too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
FeeltheBeat Fitness would not be possible without the love and support of my husband, Jay. When the pandemic happened and gyms everywhere shut down, he immediately supported my idea of teaching my classes online from our home and helped me move furniture out of the way to make it happen. My parents, too, were listening ears as I tried to navigate all the technical aspects.
