We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyle, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
An Unfriendly & Crude CMS There are multiple reasons, but lets tackle a few very quickly. It’s good for blogging but that’s about it. The platform was made for a one page site with just content and an image. Small business owners don’t need just a blog, but a fully functional, business-centric website that drives leads and revenue Unfriendly back-end The wordpress backend is designed for programmers only. When a developer hands over the website to the client, the usability is totally compromised to the end user. This results in a client being a hostage to the development company and not being able to edit their website at all. A total horror show. Plugins A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to the site. Since the plugins are free they are rarely updated and are out of date. The client’s site can break at any moment. f the Plug-ins work they usually don’t collaborate with each other Most WordPress projects utilize a mix of third party plug-ins, which may have been developed by different vendors. You can imbibe the desired functionality by getting the right plug-in, but how do you make them collaborate? The problem with plug-ins is that they integrate well with native functionalities of WordPress, but if you want your third party plug-ins to collaborate with each other then it calls for expensive customizations that eventually will break with time. Insecure and vulnerable to hacking WordPress is by far the most widely used CMS, which makes it an easy target to hacking attacks. It has also been reported that an unknown groups of people constantly are attempting to create a botnet of infected servers by creating a vast network of infected WordPress installations. For web portals, security is of paramount importance, because service failure can affect thousands of users. Considering the security issues, running a web portal on WordPress is a high risk proposal, because it will have a negative impact on credibility of the web portal. 5 Common WordPress Security Issues Brute Force Attacks. … File Inclusion Exploits. … SQL Injections. … Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) … Malware. … Weak Passwords. … Not Updating WordPress, Plugins or Themes. … Using Plugins and Themes from Untrustworthy Sources Major Plugins Compromised This has largely been due to the recent discovery of an XSS vulnerability affecting a number of the most widely installed plugins in the WordPress ecosystem. The list of plugins affected was a veritable who’s who of the WordPress great and good, including Yoast, Gravity Forms and even Jetpack. It’s important to note that WordPress security vulnerabilities extend beyond WordPress core into the themes or plugins you install on your site. According to a recent report by wpscan.org, of the 3,972 known WordPress security vulnerabilities: 52% are from WordPress plugins 37% are from core WordPress 11% are from WordPress themes #1 They will never have to purchase a website again! #2 We manage the website 24/7 #3 The website will always work on all operating systems, devices & all screens #4 Website will always work on all browsers! #5 Website is hosted on Amazon #6 All sites are HTTPS:// Totally safe and encrypted #7 Technology changes and so does client’s websites! #8 The most user friendly platform #9 SEO ready website #10 CDN Content Delivery Network #11 Website Personalization # 12 Google page speed ranking factor # 13 Feature rich platform # 14 Tablet editor # 15 PWA’S – PROGRESSIVE WEB APP # 16 Best Platform React, developed at Facebook in 2011, is used today by dozens of leading websites, including Airbnb, Imgur, and Netflix. # 17 Responsive Frame Work Foundation Zurb The most advanced responsive front-end framework in the world.
