We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Segall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a photographer starting out I began my career working as a staff photographer for different newspapers around the country. After years of working for other people, I went into business for myself and never looked back. I knew I wanted to be in control of my own destiny and set my own schedule.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My goal as a photographer has always been to tell stories with my camera. When I started photographing weddings I took that same passion for storytelling and translated it into documentary-style wedding photography. I learned that my biggest strength is being authentic and genuine with my clients. Over the years I have honed my skills to know how to always be in the right place at the right time when capturing wedings. At the end of the day, I want my clients to be blown away by the images they get from their wedding.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends visit Phoenix for the first time I love to take them hiking up Camelback Mountain. I feel so lucky to have a mountain in my backyard. Another favorite spot is always the Desert Botanical Garden.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, who is also a photographer, has always been my biggest fan and continues to push me to be better both creatively and in business.
