We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Rachael and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The art of comedy is making it look like you just pulled that joke out of your hat without breaking a sweat. But trust me, it’s all about hours of sweating over punchlines, practice, and a little bit of magic to make it seem effortless. I have many jokes that I keep reworking for about a year, but when that magic happens and you know you have the crowd-that makes it all worthwhile.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m kind of an unusual person. Weird things happen to me a lot, and I see the funny side of life with most situations. For example, our AC just went out today…in Arizona…in August. I’ve been spending the day watching Christmas movies to cool off. If this doesn’t work, I may take up ice skating tonight! While I’m not enjoying this 92 degree spa experience today,I think it’s hilarious and relatable for so many people. Do we get to deduct from our $600 power bill when this happens? I think that’s fair.
Anyway-
As far as how this all started: I have been a Chiropractic Physician since 2013, working with the under served communities. I noticed that my patients thought I was funny, and I realized that laughter was as healing for them as the Healthcare I was providing. I decided to go to an open mic around 12 years ago-as a bucket list type of thing. I only thought I’d be performing for one night. Fortunately for me there was a booker in the audience who thought I was funny. I didn’t tell him for five years that night was my first time on stage. (His name is Raul Zombrano and we’re still friends to this day!) I was blessed with the opportunity before the experience. Which is why I believe that when you have an opportunity in life you have to go for it! That’s only half of the battle however-I have put in years of work since my early beginning. I write out scripts, I perform for friends, coworkers and seniors in the community, before a traditional audience. I also pray and give thanks to God before I go on stage, and that’s the real reason I believe that I’ve been successful and still help people heal.
I’ve performed everywhere from tattoo parlors in San Diego, to casinos on the Las Vegas strip!
I wouldn’t change any of it, because it has given me the chance to share the weird things that happen to me, find common ground with people, and hopefully allow people to forget about their own troubles-one show at a time. In addition to performing stand up full time, I’m also working as an Animal Chiropractor now. While these patients don’t always get my jokes, I always have a captive audience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I relocated to Arizona in 2020, and have been commuting around the country for a lot of my shows. Arizona is a really beautiful place and I appreciate it the most when my air conditioner is working!
When my friends come to visit, I like to take them out in Scottsdale first typically. There are great little brunch places like Maple and Ash. Old town Scottsdale is also great as far as nightlife-50 shades of Rose is a lot of fun and has a Miami nightclub kind of vibe. My friend Tommy owns Second Story liquor bar, as well as The Kaz Bar-both of which are sultry places for dinner with atmosphere. If my friends are visiting for a few days I also enjoy the red rocks and galleries of Sedona, and the little local shops of Jerome Arizona. Live music will always be important to me after growing up in San Diego, and The Marquee Theater is always a good time! I went with my husband to see George Clinton and it was the best show I had seen for a while! Make sure you take the time if he’s performing in your town!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My main support and biggest fan has been my husband Jamin Brown. After 11 years performing in entertainment he encouraged me to finally go for it full time.
I also would like to thank my mentor Vicki Barbolak for being my friend, believing in me and allowing me to feature for her at Jimmy Kimmels comedy club in Las Vegas.
Finally, I’d like to thank my friend Dante Ruscioelli for helping me to take my performance to the next level and giving me the biggest compliment-that when I’m on stage everyone thinks of me as their best friend. Which is my ultimate goal, to be your friend and make you laugh!
