We had the good fortune of connecting with Diego Vallejos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diego, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
That was quitting my day job when I was a truck driver instructor. That was scary, to go from a job to pursue my art.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something I learned in life, not everybody who says they are your friend truly is. You’re the only one who’s going to take care of you, but don’t be the victim. No one is coming to rescue you, so you have to stand up for what you want. I truly believe that. Don’t dwell on the fact that life is unfair.
For me, what I wanted was to make my own legacy and believe in myself. Even if you lose everybody, even if people around you don’t like it, stand up for what you believe in. I feel like everything I touch becomes a masterpiece and I have a gift with people, that’s what makes me different. I make a lot of personal connections through my art.
It sounds really ambitious, but one thing I would love is to be one of the heavy weight champions of the art world. When I die I want my art to be there forever, my legacy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Going to the lake is a must! Camping and fishing is the best way to hang out. We would eat at Olive Garden and start with my favorite chicken gnocci soup. I would take them to get cultured at a local rodeo or an art gallery where I have a current exhibition (right now that is at Herberger theatre). Not local perse, but Vegas is always fun for a night if we’re up for the 5 hour drive.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shout to my customers!
