We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariana McWilliams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariana, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through Mari’s Gold Academy and Dream Builders AZ is that there’s a difference between giving up and making adjustments. When challenges come, I remind myself why we started in the first place to help other young people build confidence, learn real-world business skills, and believe that their ideas matter. If our mission is still making a positive impact, then it’s worth continuing, even when things don’t go as planned. Sometimes the strategy needs to change, but that doesn’t mean the dream has to end.

When deciding whether to keep going or walk away, I ask myself if the challenge is temporary or if the mission itself no longer aligns with my purpose. Most of the time, the obstacles we face are opportunities to learn, grow, and improve rather than signs to quit. Building something meaningful takes patience, resilience, and a willingness to adapt. If the vision still excites me, the purpose remains clear, and there is still an opportunity to make a difference, then I know it’s worth continuing the journey.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mari’s Gold Academy and Dream Builders AZ were created from a simple belief: when young people are given the opportunity, encouragement, and tools to succeed, they can accomplish incredible things. What started as supporting my daughter Mariana’s entrepreneurial journey through Mari’s Gold has grown into a mission-driven platform that helps children and teens develop confidence, leadership skills, financial literacy, and real-world business experience. Through educational resources, youth entrepreneur markets, and hands-on learning opportunities, we empower young people to turn their ideas into action.

The journey has not always been easy. Building a business and community initiative from the ground up requires persistence, adaptability, and a willingness to learn through challenges. Along the way, I’ve learned that success is rarely about having all the answers—it’s about taking the next step, staying committed to your purpose, and continuing to grow. What sets us apart is our focus on developing the whole child, not just teaching business skills. We are helping young people build confidence, resilience, communication skills, and the belief that their ideas have value.

What I am most proud of is seeing young entrepreneurs discover what they are capable of. Whether it’s making their first sale, speaking confidently to customers, launching a business, or simply believing in themselves a little more, those moments remind me why this work matters. Through Mari’s Gold Academy and Dream Builders AZ, our goal is to create opportunities that inspire the next generation to dream bigger, think creatively, and realize that they are capable of making a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend were visiting Arizona, one of the first places I would take them is Sedona. There’s just something special about it. The red rock mountains, beautiful hiking trails, and peaceful atmosphere make it one of my favorite places to escape and recharge. We would spend our time exploring spots like Cathedral Rock and Chapel of the Holy Cross, taking lots of pictures, browsing the local shops, and simply enjoying the incredible scenery. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, enjoy the moment, and appreciate the beauty around you.

Food would definitely be part of the experience. We would start the day with breakfast at Coffee Pot Restaurant, which is known for its amazing breakfast options. For lunch, I’d take them to Creekside Sedona so we could enjoy great food while looking out at the red rocks. In the evening, we’d have dinner at Hideaway House and watch the sunset paint the mountains with shades of red and orange. Between the food, the views, and the relaxed pace of the town, Sedona is one of those places that leaves a lasting impression long after you leave.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. Their love, encouragement, and unwavering belief in me have played a major role in both my personal and professional journey. Through every challenge, success, and new opportunity, they have been a constant source of support, teaching me the value of hard work, perseverance, faith, and integrity.
