Meet Jennifer Yancey | Speech Language Pathologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Yancey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
One of the most important things I have done as a parent is intentionally build resilience in my children. Both of my children were born with tethered oral tissues, which contributed to oral motor dysfunction and affected foundational skills related to breathing, eating, sleeping, and communication. As a speech-language pathologist, this experience inspired me to deepen my expertise and ultimately shape my career toward understanding and treating the root causes of these challenges.
Today, my private practice specializes in myofunctional and feeding therapy, focusing not just on symptoms but on the whole person. We examine factors such as breathing, sleep, nutrition, communication, stress, and nervous system regulation. Whether working with my own children or my clients, my goal is to create supportive relationships, reduce barriers to success, and develop the core skills needed for long-term growth.
I believe resilience is built when children are supported through challenges rather than protected from them. Because difficult work is rarely motivating on its own, we use play, connection, and encouragement to help children develop confidence and perseverance. Through this approach, my children have overcome challenges such as teeth grinding, mouth breathing, and nervous system dysregulation. More importantly, they have developed the habits and mindset to become motivated, independent problem-solvers who view challenges as opportunities to learn, grow, and improve both themselves and the world around them.

What should our readers know about your business?
Our private practice focuses on treating the whole child, not just the symptoms. We look at the foundations that support healthy development, including breathing, sleep, feeding, communication, nervous system regulation, and play. Many of the families who come to us have already tried multiple approaches and often see us as a last step before considering medication or surgery. What sets us apart is our commitment to finding the root cause of a child’s challenges and empowering families with practical tools and support.
What excites me most is watching children and families discover that change is possible. As a child’s skills improve, we often see positive changes ripple throughout the entire family system. Better sleep, easier mealtimes, improved communication, and increased confidence can transform daily life. Being trusted to walk alongside families during these challenges is one of the greatest privileges of my work.
Opening my private practice has allowed me to create a career that aligns with my values while still being present for my family. My children have been a major inspiration behind my professional journey, and having the flexibility to support both my clients and my own family is something I never take for granted.
The path to building this business was not easy. Like many entrepreneurs, I have learned to balance competing priorities, manage uncertainty, and wear many hats. On any given day, I may be helping a family navigate a complex therapy journey while also raising two active boys, managing a household, and breaking up sibling disagreements. The challenges are real, but so are the rewards.
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that meaningful growth rarely happens in isolation. It requires supportive relationships, resilience, curiosity, and the willingness to keep learning. These values guide both my parenting and my business.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. Through connection, play, education, and evidence-based care, we help children build the foundational skills they need to become confident, capable, and resilient. At the heart of everything we do is the belief that when we support the whole child, we strengthen the whole family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of the things I love most about this area is that there is so much to explore, not just within the city itself but throughout the surrounding communities. For visitors, I always recommend getting outside and taking advantage of the natural beauty. An early morning walk, a scenic hike, or simply sightseeing around the area is a great way to experience what makes this region special.
When it comes to food and drinks, I’m a big believer in supporting local businesses. I never travel without seeking out local coffee shops, and some of my favorites are The Well and Cousins Coffee. For a fun meal, you can’t go wrong with margaritas at Manuel’s. Because several members of my family are gluten-free, I’m also always on the lookout for restaurants that offer great gluten-free options.
That said, my favorite part of visiting has very little to do with any specific destination. The best moments are spending time with my sister, my sister-in-law, and all of our kids together. We love discovering new coffee shops, getting our nails done, and simply enjoying time as a family. My sister-in-law is especially talented at finding hidden local gems. Even with so many activities and attractions available, I’m happiest just hanging out with the cousins, watching the kids play, and making memories together. Those are the experiences that make a place truly special.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A special shoutout to my sister Brittany Smith at Play and Bloom, Jeannie Nelson at Breathe Eat Sleep Talk, Dr. Veronika Campbell at Integrated Manual Physical Therapy AZ, Brandi Ingram PA-C, and Melissa at Faith in Tutoring. Thank you for the referrals you have sent my way over the years. As a small business owner, it means more than you know when someone trusts you enough to recommend your services to others.
Beyond the referrals, thank you for your friendship, encouragement, and support as we navigate the highs, lows, and everything in between that comes with parenting and entrepreneurship. Having people in your corner who understand the journey makes all the difference, and I am incredibly grateful for each of you.
