We had the good fortune of connecting with Leanne Shearer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leanne, what do you attribute your success to?
I am fascinated by humans’ ability to change the trajectory of their lives. Coming from a background of child sexual abuse, which led to a struggle with eating disorders, addiction, and unhealthy relationships, I have spent a large portion of my life transforming my frame of mind. My focus was changing a victim mindset to one who faces life with pure honesty and accountability for my everyday actions. As a gym owner with a personal training background, I realized that people coming to me for help seemed to fall back into their “old” ways shortly after starting or meeting a specific goal, i.e., class reunion, vacation, etc. I began studying health & wellness coaching, and a large part of my study concentrated on understanding why people get stuck and feel like they can’t change. My success has come from connecting lessons learned to create a podcast, Undone & Uncensored. The focus of the podcast is a virtual Health, Wellness & Lifestyle Coaching Brand that focuses on mentoring, inspiring, guiding, and motivating, with laughter & accountability as a client moves towards implementing positive choices and long-lasting change.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My attitude, method, and style are grounded in my willingness to be authentic and raw. I am not concerned with painting a perfect picture for the world or my clients. Challenges bring grace and growth, and sharing those, permits others to acknowledge their shortcomings. I embrace imperfection and genuineness in a world of social media and superficial “things” that paint a picture of flawless lives.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would spend the majority of our time in beautiful downtown Prescott. The Prescott Courthouse, aka “the square,” has a quaint, small hometown feel. On the weekends, there are art shows and live music. Antique shops surround the Courthouse Square (one of my current favorite past times is looking for mid-century modern memorabilia). Try Sam and London & Mid Century Madness. The Bashford Courts have some excellent boutique shopping and a variety of stores. We would also go to Lynx Lake for a walk around the lake. There is an easy hike up Thumb Butte for a beautiful view of downtown Prescott. My three favorite restaurants are Thai House Cafe and the Spring Rolls are a must. The Raven for brunch, sitting rooftop, and Farm Provision for veggie tacos and fries with thousand island dressing. I could not bring my best friend to Prescott without taking her to A Dream By Day. A luxe salon where the stylists are attentive, fun, and highly skilled. If you plan to go there, schedule an appointment with as much advance notice as possible; they are always in demand, and it’s not easy to get in, but worth trying to get on a waitlist.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This one is so difficult for me to answer with one person. My grandmother, Norma Shaw, inspired me to be a hard-working, independent woman. Without a high school diploma, she started working in the ’60s, answering the phones at a bank, and retired as a Regional Manager in the 80’s. It was uncommon for women to hold the power position she had, which is what I attribute to my work ethic, values, and passion. In addition, in 2003, I met Rebecca Acoutin, who became a mentor to me. She was a personal trainer and cycle instructor at the gym I attended. Her passion for indoor cycling and fitness was contagious. She spent hours teaching me and sharing her gift of helping others. She most definitely inspired my fitness journey and desire to support women to become the best they can be.
