We had the good fortune of connecting with Lily Delatte, MD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Curiosity and motivation. Like many people out there, I had dry, sensitive skin. I tried many products, and nothing seemed to soothe my skin. Previously, I never thought that my soap could be the problem. After using highly advertised, store-bought soaps, I would lather up with lotion, and I would come out of the shower thinking my skin was the issue – it’s just dry. I researched how to solve my concerns and, in the process, created a great product that works really well with natural ingredients. I hadn’t considered starting a business before but decided it would be a shame not to help others with similar skin issues – that is how twentysix moons was born!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Twentysix moons is about obtaining health, positivity, and relaxation. When you feel comfortable in your skin, when your skin is radiant, it gives you confidence. I spent too much time and money on products that did not work. I realized that my skincare started in the shower, and my soaps made all the difference. Twentysix moons bar soaps work well with your body’s chemistry and are zero-waste and plastic-free. We are proud of our handmade, hand-wrapped products and are excited to continue to develop package-free products that really work.
One hurdle we had to overcome was manufacturing. We wanted to make sure our products were made the way we designed them. We handmake our products instead of using a large manufacturer because it’s a labor of love.
We researched the different oils and ingredients and came up with our plant-based soaps for the perfect blend of cleansing, moisturizing, exfoliating, and soothing soap possible—the ideal combination of science and nature.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I’m a homebody, but I love a good night out with friends. I would take them for a spa and shopping day in Scottsdale and drinks and dinner at the Hidden House in Chandler AZ.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband – David Delatte, MD who always supports my crazy ideas. My mother – Fariba Shirakh who has my back no matter what.
