We had the good fortune of connecting with Line Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Line, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
I love the book “Unfu*k Yourself” by Gary John Bishop. This book taught me how to change my perspective on business, friendship and relationships. It’s about thinking positive and not allowing the past negatives control your present. As well as controlling the need to know and much more. I honestly feel like it made me push myself out of the way to get to where I wanted to be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The road to Line of Stylez wasn’t easy. I was honestly terrified of being a business owner. I literally wrote down the pros and cons to talk myself into making the leap. I also did a business consultation to ensure that I was making the best business decision. To me a business consultant will never steer you wrong, the consultation brings everything into reality especially financially.

I worked for someone else but as an independent contractor for 6 years, within that time I learned a lot of what I wanted and what my responsibilities would be. I learned that I have to build a team and use my resources because a business isn’t built with just one person.

I have built my brand Line of Stylez to be a place to be beautified but also a place to learn and accept the beauty that you were born with. I am still creating tools, such as my book “How I Detangle My Natural Hair” to assist everyone, parents and children of all backgrounds. Line of Stylez goal is to encourage our community to be confident and love themselves as they are. Most importantly, we are serving our homeless community each quarter to promote the same motto.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my best friend comes to town we do a guided utv tour with Arizona outdoor fun. Definitely going to Killer a whale Sex Club and a few other speakeasy’s. There’s so many food options and I love food so we would go to Sweet Magnolia’ bbq, Lo Lo’s, Trap Haus, The Ainsworth, STK in Scottsdale, The Vig, Sugar Jam Kitchen, and find Duke’s Chicago chicken food truck! Drinks I enjoy small places, so my new favorite place is The Boom Boom room and my usual Poetic Soul event on Wednesday’s at Coyote Phoenix and finding Painted Soul at a local venue they all have great vibes! Last but not least a drive to Sedona to tour the wineries!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Encouragement was at an all time high from my circle of friends and family. At the time of me starting my stylist journey I almost gave up because of finances but an opportunity presented itself. I was a hair model for Twist & Stylez Hair Salon twice. I then was a stay-at-home mom, I decided to work at the salon part time. I loved it so much that I continued to trained on as much as I could. As time passed my Mom, sisters, cousin, and best friends said, “Do your thing, you got this!”. So here I am as an Author & Stylist with my own suite in Ahwatukee!
