We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Fraley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer. After law school I got a job at a prestigious law firm with mahogany walls and a cushy paycheck. I was a Health Care Attorney who worked with doctors and hospitals. Not medical malpractice – but everything else that goes into running a medical practice and hospitals.

Only the work wasn’t so cushy. I found myself working until 9 o’clock at night during the week and also on weekends, living on sugar and caffeine. I was working so hard that I was the second highest billing associate one year. After a while it took a toll on me.

After many years of living on cups of coffee and handfuls of peanut M&Ms which is definitely not good for your health, I got burned out and I left the law altogether. I worked with a Life Coach… and then I BECAME a Life Coach through Coach U way back in 2003… Years later, because I needed to curb my sugar cravings, I went to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2012 and opened my doors as a Holistic Health & Life Coach.

But then a funny thing happened. All my Health Coach friends told me they wanted a lawyer who understood Health Coaching and functional medicine and the online space. So, 12 years ago, I came back to the law as a Legal Coach & Holistic Lawyer and started helping practitioners get easy legal protections in place… in a more loving way.

I’ve now helped thousands of doctors, health coaches, holistic practitioners, spiritual healers, and more learn easy legal steps to protect themselves, their businesses and their brands, one step at a time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m definitely not your typical lawyer. By bringing both the caring coach side of me AND the smarty pants lawyer side of me together, I could serve people in the best possible way as a Lawyer, Coach, Speaker, Author of the #1 Best Selling Book on Amazon called Easy Legal Steps…That Are Also Good for Your Soul” and Podcast Host of the “Legally Enlightened” Podcast.
I’m also a Speaker on international stages – from British Columbia to Italy. I love to hike in Sedona and travel with my husband Scott like to Florence, Italy, one of our favorite cities in the world.

Along the way, I also became a Mastery Coach in the Transformational Coaching Method, Certified Emotion Code Practitioner, Energy Practitioner, and earned a Certificate in Sustainable Business Strategy from Harvard Business School Online.

What makes me unique is that I believe that the law is not only protective in practical ways we all think about – like using contracts, trademarks, and disclaimers – but I also believe it is energetic too. Fundamentally, when business owners take legal steps, their energy shifts to feel more protected and relaxed. They feel more safe, secure, confident and empowered and that shift in energy is reflected in all that they do from that point forward.

Because of my unique view of the law, I blend together law and the chakras and teach easy legal steps for online business owners that are aligned with the 7 main chakras which I outlined in my book Easy Legal Steps…That Are Also Good For Your Soul. At first, sharing this philosophy was scary for me because most lawyers don’t talk about energy and law in the same breath, but it became very obvious to me that when business owners increased their use of legal protections – like trademarks to protect their brands, LLCs to protect their assets, and contracts to protect their income – that they attracted more clients, greater income, and more security which allowed them to set bigger goals and expand their reach and impact.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When friends come to Sedona, my husband and I love to invite them to our home to view Thunder Mountain and Coffee Pot Rock. We would take them hiking up Soldier’s Pass Trail, then drive them out to see the incredible pictographs and petroglyphs at Palatki or Hananki, then grab a tasty sourdough pinsa at our favorite Italian restaurant Vespa. We’d also find time to hike and meditate on Bell Rock, visit the (very friendly!) wolves at the non-profit Sedona Wolf Sanctuary, and end with a healthy dinner overlooking the gorgeous red rocks at Mariposa.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am eternally grateful to my first coaches, Carey Peters and Stacey Morgenstern, of Health Coach Institute for instilling in me the belief that I can take what I had learned from the big law firm and make law more approachable and accessible, especially for brand new online business owners, health coaches and spiritual healers who weren’t used to working with lawyers or law firms. They helped me find the courage to work with online business owners, coaches, and healers and continue to expand beyond my comfort zone to have the life and business that I really wanted for myself.
