Meet Loui Jover | independent artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Loui Jover and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Loui, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
the process of staring my own business resulted as a type of obvious fiscal evolution. I was working as a warehouse supervisor and dabbling in online galleries as they were just starting to gain in the online world, my works which are simple bold ink drawings on recycled paper became popular and the result was that I was making more money online then the wage I was receiving for my job. so, it was a natural progression into becoming a full-time business. there was the risk which comes with leaving a steady occupation however my passion was my work so the risk was worth it, my thought process was if I didn’t try now when would I?
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
my work is reliant on a blend of figurative drawing and abstract elements as well as collage technique which focus on the human and mainly feminine condition. I developed a unique way of adhering old book pages together to form one large sheet of paper then would draw directly onto this, the works attracted attention and a following and the method has now become common place with many artists using this process around the world.
A great source pride for me personally and professionally as an artist is the inclusion of my method and work into many schools’ art class curriculum from a large variety of countries and I often receive emails from teachers who share their students works which are inspired directly by mine, I also receive correspondence from individual senior art students who use my work in their end of the year dissertations and projects. this is a wonderful acknowledgment and reward for any artist.
In art it is rare for anything to come along easily particularly in the financial sense I have expanded into print form to create extra revenue but selling originals is my main stay, I decided on a discipline of continual hard work and a creative process that is individual and steadfast, I try to distance my work from trends and stay focused on what I am trying to protrude as an artist.
what I would like to project onto the world with my brand and work is the idea that when one of my original pieces is obtained it is a handmade traditional artwork, one created with the artistic eye and practiced skill. No A.I involved or not simply a digital imprint but an actual tactile real work which can be framed as desired and hung and passed down to become a part of the fabric of an individual’s life story.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
i would want to keep it informal and simple because that’s the way I ride, so no theme parks more so i would want to share with them something natural something cultural something interesting and mostly something relaxed and fun. a day at the beach for a long walk along the shore and/or a walk in the forest not to physically taxing more laid back and about taking the scenery and ambience in then of course a gallery with a specific stop in the adjoining cafe for lunch, a bike ride perhaps to a local flea market which are always fun and everyone finds a treasure in these places if lucky a book one hasn’t read an old curio or such and of course at night dinners in local good food restaurant’s something Indian, Thai, Asian or Middle Eastern then afterwards a quick stop in a bar for a drink or three to top it off ide ask them to perhaps consider sitting for a sketch that I would let them take home with them. However, if they insisted on a theme park i guess ide have to be dragged along.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
my mother and father who always encouraged me to be creative and facilitated my craziness as a child.
