We had the good fortune of connecting with Lydia Fife and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lydia, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
With any startup business, it will always be a much harder road than you might expect, despite the resources available to you. What keeps me going is the vision. You have to develop such a strong vision that giving up is not an option, because no matter how hard it gets, you only fail when you give up. Albert Einstein quoted “You never fail until you stop trying.” Resilience, the ability to not give up, is actually a skill. Most entrepreneurs “fail” because the lack of this skill. I know that I decide whether I have this ability to stay present and keep going on my dreams. In short what keeps me going, is helping other women feel confident and strong starting in the gym, helping my family live a better life, and becoming financially free.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
From a young age, I’ve always been incredibly independent. I believe that’s what lead me toward naturally being business minded. Growing up, I never knew what I wanted to do, but knew that I had to make something for myself through doing something I love. Naturally with love and passion for both fitness and fashion, I started a Lissy Fitness. I was one year into college when I realized that wasn’t the path for me. I absorb so much more knowledge experiencing life and business along the way. Leaving college was not an easy decision for me, since that is the what the public still considers “normal”. I think what has driven me this far is the fact that I’m always developing myself. Self improvement/awareness is at the core of any business, especially the one running the whole thing. Starting a business has taught me even more about myself and i’m incredibly thankful for for all the difficult times, because it’s only made me that much stronger. I am pretty creative, which has helped me in many ways, overcome these challenges. I want the world to know that it is okay to not knowing what’s on the other side of the door. When, I left ASU (closing one door) a HUGE door opened for me not only with business, but modeling as well. It is okay to say NO, because then you’re able to say YES to so many more opportunities! If you are a young individual like me, just know that it’s okay to feel like you don’t have it all figured out. Trust me it feels like I don’t, even though on the outside it does. Just be present, take days for granted and never lose that spark that keeps you feeling like a diamond. Anyone can shine like a diamond.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Phoenix is such an amazing city with endless amount of things to do and explore! First off, I go many coffee shops to work, my top picks are Sip, Cartel, Press, Giant, Moxie, Kahvi, and Provision… probably too many to pick from, sorry! Some of my favorite places to eat are Toca Madera (luxury experience), Diego pops (best happy hour), and Kaleidoscope (unique superfood smoothies). This is just a few, i’m a big foodie and have many more places I love! Canal Club is another cute moroccan vibe restaurant inside the Scott, an amazing resort! First Friday in downtown Phoenix, which I’ve had pop up booths at before, is a great place to walk around with music, food, crafts, etc, every first friday of the month. Papago park is incredibly gorgeous to go to during sunset or sunrise. There’s a fun small hike, hole-in-the-rock overlooking the city, as well as, a cute pond by the Zoo. Camelback is another classic hike to do here in the heart of Phoenix, Paradise Valley. Outside of the city, in the summer, is salt river tubing with wild horses! Scottsdale Fashion Square is my favorite and largest mall. BODI is a fun place to do group workouts in Old Town. Mountainside Fitness or VASA are great gyms to workout at, especially wearing LISSYFIT! Lastly walking around Tempe Town Lake, Old Town in Scottsdale, and Roosevelt Row in Downtown Phoenix are my go-to places to hang out!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up in Montana, I didn’t have much access to high level people that I looked up to for mentorship. I learned many principles of success from like-minded people through podcasts and books. Leaders including, Napoleon Hill, Ed Mylett, and various other leaders along the way. I also want to thank my parents and family so much for supporting me in this journey.
