We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcelino Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcelino, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in North Carolina then moved to Phoenix, AZ. Both of my parents immigrated from Mexico to the U.S where they started their own businesses. As you can imagine growing up with two entrepreneur parents, you tend to enjoy the fruits of their business as well as the downside of their business. In 2008, I saw my parents go from being on top of world to losing it all in just a few weeks; I was 12 years old when this happened. I remember walking into the living room and my parents were sitting on the couch crying. Of course at a very young age I did not understand what was going on but I knew something was very wrong. Every day since, that memory is engraved in my mind. Growing up, I worked for my fathers company and this is where I learned the definition of hard work, I learned how a business functions and how it should be managed. I also learned the value of relationships the importance of following through on commitments. I use these principles in my business day to day.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a real estate agent in the beautiful state of the valley of the sun. I’ve been a full time licensed realtor for about 4 years now, I’ve gotten the opportunity to be surrounded/work with highly successful people; I’ve also helped close friends and family buy, sell & invest in one of the best Real Estate markets in the nation (Arizona). I believe what sets us apart, is that what you see is what you get; we’re in the business of helping people 1st, and 2nd we are in the real estate business. What I’m most proud of, is how we’ve been able to leverage our current relationships in our communities and social media. We take pride in our listing videos, we share these on all social platforms and run ads for them, you see as a realtor there is no reason that you should list a property without a video or some sort of exposure that is behind it. Simply listing a property on the MLS is lazy, not every buyer is on the MLS and not every buyer is connected to a local agent or they might not even reside in the state that you live. When I first started, it was not easy. I started from nothing, zero. I had no connections and I had no real estate experience, it took me a year to get my first “client”, after a bad split and a horrible experience, I was left with $2k and some change. I started to care about people and NOT sell them, you see when you start to chase the money you get nothing; when you start putting people first and looking their money like its your own.. the rest follows. which is what. you wanted “money”. The lessons I’ve learned, are that Real Estate is a cut throat industry, you have to be ready at all times and you have to be able to stand out among the 87,000 licensed agents in the state of Arizona. I want my brand to be known as a brand that takes risk’s, isn’t afraid to be themselves and one that utilizes the tools that we’ve been given in this tech driven world we are living in.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my friends was visiting, I’d take them to explore downtown Chandler, have them explore all the local shops, bars & restaurants. I’d say to check out the Ostrich festival along with all of the other season downtown festivals that arrive to chandler.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the support of my friends and family, most importantly my family. Growing up, I watched both my parents work random jobs to keep the lights on and put food on the table. As you get older, you come recognize and honor all the struggles and sacrifices that your parents made to give you a better life than the one they had growing up.
