We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcial Paredes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcial, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Naturally, I’d like to say that giving up is not an option, but the truth is, sometimes it is the best option. For me, knowing whether to keep going or to give up is based on whether I still feel passionate or excited about whatever it is that’s in question. Throughout my years, I’ve started many projects, had multiple dreams and tried many things, and just like I started, as soon as I felt it wasn’t exciting to me anymore, I gave them up. Without regret or even looking back for too long. In the same way, there are many things that I know I must keep fighting for and just keep pushing through any obstacle that may come my way. The reason for that is because something inside of me tells me it’s the right thing to do. There’s sort of a little spark that, just keeps getting stronger. That’s a pretty good indicator to me that I’m doing something right. As I’ve gotten older and matured, I’ve come to rely on listening to those feelings (my intuition) more, when making choices in life. This seems to be working out a little better for me.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So, M&L Creative Designs was established in 2019. The idea was born 2 years prior, shortly after my wife and I got married. We built our own wedding decor pieces and received a lot of good feedback from it. Our original plan was to have just a couple of pieces to rent out to other brides and grooms every so often, but after some careful consideration, we decided to try and build this business out more. Where we set our business apart from others like ours in the valley, is that we build most of our own inventory. Our specialty is creating those hard to find pieces that someone might see on pinterest, or hidden away somewhere on the internet. We want to give our customers exactly what they envision for their events/weddings at prices that will work well within their budgets. As we are relatively new, we are very excited about what’s yet to come in the next few months/years. We are in the process of adding new, custom built pieces that will be available for rent soon, and hoping that we can make someone’s dream event become a reality with something fresh and unique. So far, one of the most difficult things we have endured as a new business is getting the word out there. Getting our business seen by our target customers , and showing how we can help them has been a small challenge, but at the same time, getting there slowly but surely. To top it off, trying to run a small business in this industry , in the middle of a pandemic has also been quite interesting to say the least. It has added a handful of new unforseen obstacles that nobody was prepared for. As I like to be a positive person, what I’m taking from this whole experience is that it has only made us stronger and wiser as people, and as a business. The good news is that we are here to stay, and we are super excited to offer our services and products to everyone , now and in the future to come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend come visit from out of town for a week, I would take him or her on a couple of day trips. Some of my favorite places to visit are up in Northern Arizona where the weather is cooler and the scenery is simply the best. I probably would suggest going to Sedona for some hiking and dining, maybe the Grand Canyon for some site seeing. I’m not much of a night life type of person anymore but if we were to stay in Phoenix, one of my favorite places to hang out at is Down Town. There are lot’s of great bars and restaurants to enjoy a nice evening or two. I would probably add that to the itinerary as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shout out to my loving wife Lynne, and my two sons, Leo and Emilio. They have been my motivation in more ways than one. Having them by my side has motivated me to take a chance on myself finally, to do the things I’ve dreamt of for so long, in hopes of giving them every thing they deserve. I’m grateful for having the opportunity to try and be the best father and role model I can be for my sons, and a good husband to my wife.
