We had the good fortune of connecting with Marie Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marie, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Opening a practice of my own had been a dream of mine since I was a child, made present by my early fondness for the healthcare career field. In 2012, that passion led me to medical aesthetics and eventually to my current role as medical director and president of my own practice. Working under the most prestigious dermatologists and medical professionals in Arizona helped me to understand how to provide injectable treatments with expertise, gain a full understanding of dermatology, and safely treat skin with various modalities.
Just three years ago, I made that rewarding and risky decision to invest in a practice of my own, DermaCrush Medical Aesthetics, where I currently provide non-invasive cosmetic dermatology services in Scottsdale. I am proud to say we have seen tremendous growth and success since our opening and continue to empower both men and women to feel and look their absolute best.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
DermaCrush is redefining the stereotype of women and men seeking a path to regain confidence and is defining the true nature of “medical grade” aesthetics with conservative yet effective patient plans. We utilize tools such as injectables and laser technology for erasing the signs of aging on the face and body; facial rejuvenation to maintain a natural look that is a refreshed, understated appearance from Botox, Dysport, and dermal fillers. We continuously reinforce our value for natural-looking treatments, and stand our ground when patients ask for treatments that look overtly fake or are more than the patient needs aesthetically; fresh, not fake.
The journey to becoming a successful practice was certainly not easy. I established DermaCrush without any financial support from a spouse or family members while supporting my, at the time, teenage son. Additionally, I was learning to master the legal aspects of properly and safely running a medical aesthetics business while navigating an exigent store buildout process. I was also still seeing patients full-time!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, we would of course start the week off right with Botox and a medical-grade facial at DermaCrush. We would then visit Kierland and the Scottsdale Quarter for some shopping, Volanti for lunch while we watch private jets take off at the Scottsdale Airport, and then Buck & Rider for oysters and wine. Next is a trip to Sedona! We would go hiking, stay at L’Auberge for its beautiful views and drink wine by the creek. After that, head to Flagstaff and have them see or try something new such as mountain biking, the Grand Canyon, 7 Wonders of the Natural World in our Backyard, Monument Valley, or the ice caves near Flagstaff.
