We had the good fortune of connecting with Markisha Masters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Markisha, how do you think about risk?
Taking the risks that has been presented to me, has been the greatest thing I’ve ever experienced. Even without knowing the outcome I had to follow my intuition and trust myself and that I was doing the right thing. If you don’t take risk you won’t grow. I look at risk as opportunities. Those moments trying to figure out if I’m making the best or worse decision of my life is the moments I’m most grateful for to this day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a certified loctition and scalp specialist , my work sets me apart from others because the time, passion and education I put into my craft. It’s beyond styling the locs and making them look good. It’s important to create personalized regimens for each of my clients and my work promotes longevity. I’m so proud to be loved and trusted by many. I’m absolutely honored to be considered one of the Top Loctitions in Arizona. Getting to where I am today took preparation long before I walked this path. Little did I know I was being groomed for something amazing a long time now. And now that I’ve figured out my place I’m ready to show the world what I’m made of. Once I got on my path everything fell in my lap. But learning and figuring out my place in this world was the most difficult part. I want the world to know that I’m here now. And I came from nothing. With determination and ambition you will make it anywhere.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first place I will take them is to my Favorite Sushi spot, Moira sushi.. a dimly lit Japanese sushi spot in a quite usually calm area in downtown Phoenix for a amazing happy hour and Straw berry sakis, then head to the Phoenix Art museum and gaze at some of the featured exhibits on display. A nice hike through Papago park where we get to enjoy the fresh air and scenic view of the Papago mountains. And spending a nice day trip,on the salt river in mesa with food and drinks with friends. Or a nice hike and meditation in Sedona at the healing vortex.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate Braxton Pitre and the Loc’d Art hair lounge for guiding me in the beginning of my path and showing me how to bring my vision to life. And to my sweet daughter who gives me my strength to never give up
