We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matthew, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The process is very layered. Like other things in life making products and giving services is constant work like a sculptor working outside in a storm. While I build a brand, products, and clientele, many things take place to make me have to start over in certain areas. Not much stays the same so I imagine when I’m finally established it will take a lot of work to pin point the qualities and make sure they never change. For example, with the issues for mailing we’ve had recently I have had to test different services to see which have the most integrity and even then I still may have to make calls to make sure their service doesn’t fail.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being from Full Sail University, I have many outlets for art. I started in photography with newborns and quinceñeras then throughout worked on artwork for different musical artists. It’s not easy starting freelancing especially when personally funding for equipment, experiences, and networking. To overcome there’s a lot of sacrifice and multitasking. I’ve learned how to keep going through pressure even though I still need to work on how I react to constant change. I want the world to know that I want so much more out of my brand. My plan is far more than graphic art and traveling. I aspire to branch out world wide with my craft through event planning and help other artists shine as well.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend Rae’zhan Mojica we’re coming to town we would go to the Scottsdale fashion square and look at the decor in the designer stores and get some lotion from Bath and Body Works. Noon time we would drive through mill and visit the Tempe town lake before we washed up and rummaged through Tempe marketplace to play games at Dave and Busters! I would take her to El Paisano market so I can get a hot Cheeto burrito but she’s vegan so I have to let her choose what she wants to eat.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out The Network-Phoenix social collective for connecting me with a great community, Byron Brooks from the BLAEQ organization, JUSTUS for supporting me through my trips to network and promote, and my family in Dallas Texas for inspiring me!
