We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Behrens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Relentlessness. I pack my schedule everyday to keep moving forward. I meet everyone I can and take every meeting that I can, maintaining these relationships at the same time.
I truly love what I do and I think it’s evident in my designs. Trust comes easily from clients and I actually do what I say I’m going to do. It’s sad how many people these days just don’t follow through. I get bids from contractors for jobs and agree to pay the amount they request, yet they don’t show up to do the work! It’s not hard to be successful these days if you can just keep your word.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am so excited about all of the opportunity that has come my direction. It’s always scary to shut a door to a good paying job not knowing what your future entails. I felt like God was going to carry me through this next chapter and He has indeed. He has opened so many doors for me and I have met the most amazing clients.
The biggest thing I’m learning is to say no. I want to help everyone, but need to focus on the ones that align with my business and culture. When you align with your ideal client everything is easier! My best clients are the ones that really want my help and let me do my thing!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the spas in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley! Whenever, I have a girl friend in town I want them to experience all of the amazing spots we have so close to us.
The Phoenician and Fairmont Princess are my favorites!
I have children so we spend a lot of time at the McCormick Ranch Train Park or a trampoline park! I love to check out local events like the farmer’s market or a fun concert as well.
Food is such a hard choice because we have so many good selections. I’m thinking LGO, The Henry, or Lure to get started.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people along the way that I would love to recognize. The first person is my neighbor and friend Hilary that told me I should be doing my own thing. She’s the one that planted the seed and then I couldn’t get it out of head. Another huge supporter is my husband, Will. He is the definition of a partner always pitching in when I have a meeting and can’t grab our girls or a special event and he’s running them to dance for me.
Some other shout outs go to my besties in the entrepreneurial space: Leah Caplanis, Neeta Bhushan, Melissa Rameriz. Lauren Lerner and Emily Yates have been wonderful design mentors for me.
