We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Good and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always loved small businesses, jumping in, getting to work and making something out of nothing. I’ve worked in real estate, event planning and management, and marketing. Helping other small businesses gave me the tools and experience to go out on my own and specialize in something I love while helping LOTS of businesses with what I feel I excel at which is website design and online marketing. I knew I needed a change in 2014 but it took me a few years to plan my exit strategy. I was heavily involved in management and wore a lot of hats that caused a lot of mental stress. No one wants to dream and think about work all the time and that’s what I was doing! After I had a car crash while thinking about work I knew now was the time to get serious and change from being employed to self employed again and take more control over factors I could change and let go of those I could not. I knew I had the skills to help others with their websites and online marketing because I had done it for others for years! Starting your own business is a big decision and not for the faint of heart! There will be ups and downs as you start but it is so worth it in the end!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I actually got started in website design because I had a terrible experience with another website design firm at my last job as a marketing manager. We had contracted out a new website and what was supposed to be 6 weeks turned into 9 months of waiting for a website to be completed. The website was also not user friendly for people checking out or for a backend user experience as a E-Commerce company when we did get it back from designers. They didn’t listen and instead gave us more of a cookie cutter system that was quickly becoming outdated. From that experience I knew there had to be a better way to take care of businesses and their websites and it was in the back of my head that I could learn what I needed to in order to get caught up on responsive website design and do it myself. I did learn what I needed to and we started a new site 6 months later with a new business name from scratch in house and from that design I was able to get the company website up to #2 in Search Engine rankings nationwide within 2 years in a highly competitive market. We left the other website up for a few years but it didn’t get anywhere near the ranking the new one did. I realized then that I really was good at what I did but needed time to focus in on that one thing – website design – so I started a plan to leave my last employer and stop wearing so many hats and go out on my own and focus on website design either with another company or on my own. Having a business is something that takes a lot of time and dedication to build and people who think it magically works overnight are fooling themselves a little bit! It is rewarding, it does give you more control, but it is work! Luckily hard work is one of our superpowers so despite the pit in your stomach worry the first year on my own, now I know I can create the revenue I need when I need it and it will all work out fine! One thing that we take a lot of pride in as a company is our high level of dedication to taking care of the customer and not treating them as a number or quote. We love that we build relationship as well as websites with our clients! They are the best!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are all about the outdoors so when friends or family come to visit one of our favorite places to take them is up to the Mountains to go Hiking at Woods Canyon Lake, It’s quiet, beautiful and not the cactus landscape everyone thinks of when they visit Arizona. Prescott is another favorite of ours because you can literally get to any of their lakes within 15 minutes no matter where you stay in Prescott. Paddle boarding at Watson lake is always a fun way to enjoy the outdoors. When we are hanging around in town our favorite places to take visitors are local eateries like Republica Empanada and Mangos in Downtown Mesa. We are big on finding the best salsa in town and these two places have killer salsa! With the new arts center and shows that come through – it is the perfect place to enjoy walking around downtown and having some great food while supporting local plus all the new murals around Main are fun for photo ops too!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
