We had the good fortune of connecting with Melophova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melophova, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk taking is a pivotal part of anyone’s journey whether in life or career. Stepping out of the bounds of comfort catapults you into the unknown. Although unfamiliar and often scary, this change is the very element needed for growth and evolution. Whether out of your own volition or forced, risks are important. Personally for me, it was only through risking everything that I was able to achieve anything. My wisdom expands through the learning, unlearning and relearning brought upon risk taking. This newly cultivated wisdom is what fuels my continuous evolution.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Personally, my art is a way for me to express and explore my thoughts, ideas and feelings through visuals and sounds. So naturally, I would say my art sows the very same seeds it originates from – to think, be inspired and feel. From doodling as a toddler on my grandma’s walls to d.i.y. art projects in my early teenage years – art has been a part of my life from as early as I can remember. Only in these recent years had I started taking it more seriously and wanted to hone in my creative skills/abilities. At one point in my life, I vividly remember feeling so despondent and broken for weeks. That melancholy had a firm grip on my entire reality, and the only thing that took my attention away from that was art. It was not easy but it sure was liberating. The creativity through my art revealed a whole new world outside of that melancholy as well as a beautiful one inside it. From that point on, it has been a timeless and evolving journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say my favorite spots in my city, or any city for that matter, would be anywhere in nature. My best ideas and epiphanies have always stemmed from quality time with Mother Earth. Nothing beats nature’s design – from symmetric patterns to complex textures! Also, you can find the most interesting people like tree huggers and environment painters.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
