We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Fain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
My kids are now grown and out of the house, but I was mainly a stay at home mom while they were growing up. I would get them ready, take them to school, and then go to the gym to coach. I wasn’t until they were out of the house that I purchased the business. Showing them that you can put your family first, and still be able to do what you are passionate about has had the most impact on them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I had an opportunity to come in and take over Captain CrossFit during Covid. Having been there since the doors opened in 2011, I was eager to reestablish the community and bring fun and excitement back into fitness. We celebrate each other’s accomplishments and are there for each other when things aren’t going so well. We set fitness goals, hike together, and do obstacle course races together. Recently, I became a guide and I get to take people to incredible places, such as Mt. Kilimanjaro, Machu Pichu, and The Grand Canyon. My goal is to help people live their adventurous life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would of course hike most days. My favorite hikes here in Prescott are Spruce Mountain, Thumb Butte, White Rock, and Granite Mountain. We would probably walk around the courthouse square and eat at The County Seat, which has a view of the courthouse. We might go to The Palace and even The Hassayamapa Inn for a drink, both of which are historic places to visit. Then we would head for Jerome, a cute mining town about a half hour from Prescott, where we would eat at The Haunted Hamburger and walk around the quaint shops.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The credit goes mainly to my husband and kids. They are constantly encouraging and challenging me to be better and to take chances. When the opportunity came to purchase the CrossFit that I had been coaching at for 10 years, they excited for me and gave me the push that I needed make it work. Besides, my family, the athletes at Captain that I had been coaching for years, were very excited and supportive of me becoming the new owner.
