We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Guillemet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a pastry chef , trained in French cooking , I’ve owned a business since I was 21 years old. This time with The Make Pretend Bakery , in a COVID time , I had to think out of the oven and think of an other way to express my passion for the pastry world. A friend challenged me to crate a fake whipped cream mug topper and that’s how it all started!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a trained culinary chef. But my favorite part of the cooking world is pastry. I specialized in French pastries, wedding cakes, chocolates and confiserie.
Now I try to recreate with inedible ingredients pastries , pies , cakes etc to come as close as possible to the real delicacies.
Nothing is to big or small in my make pretend bakery .. From huge 4 feet props to tiny 1:12 scale for dollhouses to fake food jewlery we can do it all
We also cater to the theatre , movie productions, store front displays , birthday parties etc
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The hubby and I have recently moved to the USA in a quaint little town near Sedona called Cornville.
Right next to us is a cute town called Cottonwood. That’s where we like to go for food , entertainment. We also are lucky to be near Page Springs where we have great wineries.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well I feel like I’m doing a speech at the Oscar’s but I have to thank my parents who have always been my biggest supporter and encouraging to always achieve my goals and attend the school of my dreams Le Cordon Bleu Paris with the best teachers !
And also to my hubby that’s letting me express my wildest dreams and putting up with my inedible creations !
