We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel McLaren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miguel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly the thought process behind starting my own business was very idealistic. Mostly I think I got in My own way thinking things had to be a certain way. They don’t. When I realize there is no one size fits all plan. I just took a leap of faith. I am a strong believer in, you do things with good intentions and heart and they will work out.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The best thing of being apart of the hair community is the ability to connect with people. Other hair artist and the communities we serve. When a person sits in My chair or better yet walks in the door. My immediate thought is “they chose me.” And all I want is for them to love their hair when their visit is over. Applying my knowledge of hair, hair care. Lighting, placement and my overall love of beauty have to always be fun. Having fun is key. People want to laugh smile feel confident and have fun. My biggest challenge was overcoming my own insecurities. Practicing what you preach! I strongly believe I was born to do hair. But I have to constantly remind myself that learning never ends.
My hope is that through beauty I can make a difference in the life of those I come in contact with. And I think the most important thing I want people to know is that I care! So that means I will do everything I can to help you find and maintain the look that makes you walk through life with a smile.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever we have visitors 7 falls in Sabino Canyon is a must. Getting outside is something we need more of. Food is always a main topic. I like The Cup Cafe in Club Congress and Guero Canelo for tacos of Carne asada. I love animals so the Desert Museum is always a treat.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout definitely goes out to my clients/guest/friends. They always encouraged me and supported me in doing whatever made me happy. In life and my career.
