Hi Mikayla, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
According to American Humane, “Each year, approximately 10 million pets are lost in the United States, and millions of those end up in the nation’s animal shelters. Tragically, only 15 percent of dogs and 2 percent of cats in shelters without ID tags or microchips are reunited with their owners.”

Hi, my name is Mikayla, and I own and operate Proper Pet. A handmade pet tag business dedicated to helping pets stay out of shelters.

What should our readers know about your business?
After I started having seizures that disabled me from driving, working, and doing everyday activities, I decided to start Proper Pet to gain back some of my independence and still be able to keep in touch with the pet community.

After working with animal rescues over a course of 7 years, I realized how important it was for pets to have a form of identification. Pet ID tags are the most accessible form of pet identification. They can be purchased anytime from local retailers, online stores, and small businesses such as ours!

We offer a variety of hand-stamped pet ID tags made uniquely for your pet. Some of our most popular tags include our “Hi I’m chipped!” tag, as well as our phone number tags that can be added on to any name tag.

With having several years of experience in the pet industry, I understand that losing a pet can be one of the most traumatic things that can happen to a pet parent. I’d like to try and prevent as many missing pets as possible by advocating and educating as many pet lovers as I can about pet identification.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in sunny Northern California where I happen to be located the prefect distance between Sacramento and San Francisco!

I definitely recommend checking out Point Reyes National Seashore for some hiking, Golden Gate Vista Point for sightseeing, and Rockville Hills Regional Park if you’re looking for a leisurely outdoor adventure.

If you’re looking for more of a touristy scene then I recommend heading to downtown Sacramento for some delicious food, drinks, and maybe even some shopping!

The best part about all these locations are that they’re pet friendly!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My boyfriend Darren is my biggest supporter! From taking me to the post office, to helping me set up for small business events, he’s always there for me! I have no idea where I would be today if it wasn’t for all the support and love he’s contributed to me and my business.

I also have the most AMAZING ambassadors that are always encouraging me and helping me grow. I feel so lucky to have found such supportive ambassadors and I couldn’t do it without them!
