We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Mcdonald and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was rooted in a deep passion for helping others grow, both mentally and physically. My journey began with personal training, where I found real purpose in guiding people through their fitness goals, helping them build confidence, and watching them transform not just their bodies, but their entire outlook on life. That experience showed me how much I value making meaningful connections with people and supporting them on a deeper level.
From there, it naturally expanded into other areas, like hosting retreats and organizing challenges, where I could create experiences that blend wellness, mindfulness, and community. At the core, my business is about making an impact—whether it’s through personal training sessions where someone hits a new milestone or through events that give people a space to reconnect with themselves and others. It’s all about helping people feel seen, supported, and inspired, while also staying true to the values and energy I bring into everything I do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My “art” is all about helping people tap into their true strength—physically, mentally, and emotionally. What sets me apart is my holistic approach to wellness. I’m not just focused on getting someone to lift heavier weights or hit a fitness goal; I’m committed to helping people transform their mindset, become more mindful, and connect with themselves on a deeper level. My work blends physical training with mindfulness, empowerment, and self-discovery.
I’m most proud of the transformations I’ve witnessed—not just in my clients’ bodies, but in their confidence, awareness, and ability to see their own potential. Seeing someone walk away stronger, not just physically but in how they view themselves, is what excites me every day.
Getting to where I am now wasn’t easy. There were plenty of moments of doubt, setbacks, and challenges along the way. But I learned that growth often comes from embracing discomfort and staying committed even when things get tough. I overcame those challenges by staying true to my vision and surrounding myself with people who believe in what I do.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of authenticity. Being real and staying connected to my “why”—helping others empower themselves and grow holistically—has been key.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that it’s all about the deeper work. It’s not just fitness or mindfulness; it’s about guiding people to feel strong, empowered, and more in tune with themselves in every area of life. This journey isn’t just a business—it’s my purpose.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day 1: Start with a cozy farm-to-table dinner and drinks at a rooftop bar.
Day 2: Hike a scenic trail, enjoy a picnic with a view, and have a hearty dinner.
Day 3: Try a unique workout class, visit a spa, and enjoy live music with a nutritious dinner.
Day 4: Explore the city, visit art galleries and cool neighborhoods, and dine at a stylish spot.
Day 5: Take a day trip to a nearby attraction, with lunch at a local diner and a winery or brewery visit.
Day 6: Sample must-try foods at trendy cafés and food festivals, and experience local nightlife.
Day 7: Relax with coffee, a park visit, and a special farewell dinner.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love, support, and encouragement of a few key people and influences in my life. First, I have to give a huge shoutout to my clients—past and present. Their trust, commitment, and dedication constantly inspire me to keep pushing forward and growing in this journey.
I also want to recognize my mentors and fellow coaches who taught me not just about training techniques, but about the power of connection, empathy, and truly seeing the people you work with. They helped me realize that this work is about so much more than just fitness—it’s about transformation, empowerment, and helping others become the best version of themselves.
On a more personal level, my partner, Haylee, has been my biggest source of love and encouragement, always supporting my vision even when the path was uncertain. Finally, books on mindfulness and self-awareness have played a big role in shaping my approach, reminding me of the importance of integrating the mind, body, and spirit into everything I do.
All these influences have shaped who I am and how I show up, and I’m grateful for each and every one of them.
