We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Shubic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
That discipline and persistence are the keys to success. It’s also very helpful to make a concerted effort to network and build a tribe that you can share ideas and favor with. We live in a world that is changing at an ever rapid pace, so being a life-learner is essential, and, very easy to do given that the world’s knowledge is at our fingertips. Coursera, MasterClass, LinkedIn Learning and Skillshare are all fantastic (and affordable) resources.

What should our readers know about your business?
My path in the business world has been a fascinating blend of passion, resilience, and continuous learning. With an extensive background in marketing, I’ve gained experience across nearly every facet of the discipline. For over a decade, I had the incredible opportunity to travel the world as a travel writer, blogger, and video content creator, which allowed me to become an expert in content marketing. This unique experience not only honed my skills, but also ignited a deep understanding of how to connect with diverse audiences through compelling storytelling.

However, the onset of the pandemic brought my business to an abrupt halt. Faced with this challenge, I made a decision to pivot and adapt. This led to the creation of Mesh Marketing, a boutique marketing firm where I now leverage my extensive marketing experience to assist clients in the travel sector and beyond with their digital and content marketing efforts.

What sets Mesh Marketing apart is the well-rounded approach I’ve developed through my travels and an insatiable appetite for learning. My ability to craft stories and messaging that resonate with customers stems from the diverse experiences I’ve encountered worldwide. This unique perspective allows me to build rapport and foster genuine connections between my clients and their audiences.

The journey to where I am today has certainly not been easy. Overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic required determination, flexibility, and a willingness to embrace change. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along the way is the power of adaptability. In the face of adversity, the ability to pivot and find new opportunities can be a game-changer.

Through my brand and story, I want the world to know that success is often a product of resilience and the courage to embrace new paths. Mesh Marketing is not just about providing marketing services; it’s about bringing a well-rounded perspective that helps clients tell their stories in the most authentic and impactful way possible. My path is a testament to the power of perseverance, adaptability, and the endless possibilities that arise when passion meets purpose.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting the area, I would plan an unforgettable week-long trip showcasing the best of Arizona. With no expense spared, we would embark on a journey filled with luxury, adventure, and a touch of history.

Day 1: Arrival and Wickenburg
I would pick them up at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, and we would head straight to Wickenburg to spend the night at Rancho de los Caballeros (a client of mine), a stunning resort that embodies the spirit of the Old West. After checking in, we’d play a round of golf on their pristine course, followed by a serene horseback ride through the scenic desert. As the sun sets, we’d dine al fresco at 19 Restaurant, enjoying exquisite cuisine under a canopy of stars.

Day 2: Yarnell, Prescott, and Jerome
The next morning, we’d drive up the picturesque Yarnell Hill, making our way to Prescott. We’d stop for lunch at either Farm Provisions or El Gato Azul, savoring delicious farm-to-table dishes or vibrant Southwestern flavors. I’d share stories about Prescott’s rich history as the former capital of Arizona Territory. Continuing north, we’d explore the historic town of Jerome, wandering through its eclectic galleries and soaking in the breathtaking views from this mile-high hilltop.

Day 3: Cottonwood
Our journey would take us to Cottonwood, where we’d stay at the charming Tavern Hotel. Dinner would be a highlight at Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery & Trattoria, owned by Maynard James Keenan, the lead singer of TOOL. The evening would be filled with fine wine and delectable dishes, set against a backdrop of stunning vineyard views.

Days 4-5: Sedona
Next, we’d head to Sedona, staying at the exclusive Ambiente A Landscape Hotel. Our days in Sedona would be packed with adventure and relaxation. We’d embark on a thrilling Pink Jeep tour, explore epic hiking trails, indulge in luxurious spa treatments, and drive through the breathtaking Oak Creek Canyon. A visit to Slide Rock State Park would add a splash of fun, followed by a gourmet dinner at Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill, known for its panoramic views and exquisite cuisine.

Day 6: Montezuma Castle and Arcosanti
On our way back to Phoenix, we’d visit the ancient cliff dwellings at Montezuma Castle, marveling at the ingenuity of the Sinagua people. We’d then explore the experimental town of Arcosanti, a fascinating blend of architecture and ecology envisioned by Paolo Soleri.

Day 7: Farewell in Phoenix
Our final day would include a leisurely morning in Phoenix, with a parting meal at Wildflower Bread Company, where we’d enjoy fresh, artisanal fare. I’d ensure they had ample time to relax before their flight, reflecting on the incredible memories made during our week-long adventure.

This itinerary highlights some of the best of Arizona’s landscapes, history, and cuisine, and it also underscores the unique and enriching experiences that make travel so transformative.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
During my journey as an international travel blogger, I had the privilege of experiencing the world in ways that have profoundly shaped who I am today. If I were to dedicate my shoutout to a single entity, it would be Mother Earth herself. The diverse landscapes, cultures, and experiences that she offers have been my greatest educators. Every corner of the globe has provided me with lessons that no classroom ever could, teaching me about resilience, empathy, and the beauty that surrounds us.

In addition to the invaluable wisdom gained from my travels, literature has played a pivotal role in my personal growth. “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand stands out as a book that left an indelible mark on my philosophy and worldview. The story’s powerful narrative and profound messages challenged me to think critically about my values, ambitions, and the impact I wish to leave on the world.

Of course, my journey would not be complete without acknowledging the support and encouragement from my loved ones, mentors, and the global community of travelers and storytellers who continually inspire me. Their belief in my vision has been the wind beneath my wings, propelling me forward even in the face of challenges.
