We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Love and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misty, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Prior to becoming a family photographer, every year I would get family photos taken. Especially in time for the holidays, as they make memorable gifts. I noticed that pricing would increase every year to the point where I was paying as much as I paid for wedding photography. This triggered me to get my own camera to be able to capture my own family’s memories. Then I thought; maybe other families are in the same situation so what if I provide affordable photo sessions to them? It was the best decision I ever made. I’ve seen the same clients since 2019 who’ve helped build my business primarily by word of mouth. I absolutely love the reactions I get from families after receiving their galleries and will continue to provide affordable memories for them to have forever.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Prior to providing sessions to families, I loved taking photos of scenery and wildlife. I believe I was scared to open up services to people in case they didn’t like my editing style or for criticism. After a while, I figured to just go with it to give it a try and ended up meeting some amazing people through the process. There were some challenges, mainly technical issues but I was learning. I took some online classes and attended some courses. I joined other photography groups to meet other photographers in the community which was a great support system for advice and resources. Through my journey, I’ve learned that you cannot always accommodate what everyone wants but by being yourself you will attract those that appreciate you for that and not for what they want you to be.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Many of my favorite spots in Arizona would have to be Sedona. Everything from the weather to the beautiful red rocks and amazing trails just makes you feel like you’re in a different state. Places such as Payson and Prescott have always been some favorites. So many easily accessible trails for exploring and opportunities to photograph wildlife.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My story starts with becoming a mother. Entering motherhood I realized just how fast time goes and how we sometimes forget with everything in life going on. I wanted to be able to capture these early years with my son so he too could see what all we did together and how much we both changed throughout the years. Seeing him grow in our photos every year brought so much pride and happiness that I knew other moms would also appreciate these types of memories. My son inspires me.
