We had the good fortune of connecting with Molly Ferguson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Molly, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been an artistic person and knew I wanted to be creative in my career. I started my freelance illustration career part time while I was working in an art department in the film industry. As I continued to improve my digital illustration skills and grow my network of clients, I realized it might be possible to transition into working for myself full time.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I mainly create editorial illustrations for online news publications, although I also license artwork and am hoping to illustrate a children’s book soon. I love using an iPad to create my work and the freedom that allows me. I have created artwork from home and while traveling around the world. I feel very fortunate to be able to follow my passion and create artwork every day while also learning about the news stories that I’m illustrating.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and encouragement of my fiancé, Dom. He introduced me to my first illustration client, and has pushed me to take risks and grow my business since then.
