We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Scacco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, what do you attribute your success to?
One thing that has created both joy and success in my creative process is my addiction to reworking designs until they are perfect. I think this comes from a deep-seated desire for continuous improvement. With each project, I am on a journey to refine my skills and to expand my knowledge. With each project I am pushing to surpass my previous achievements and reach new heights of craftsmanship. The joy lies in witnessing my own growth, as each reworked design gets better, I also get better at what I do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Creating art has brought me closer to the things that I believe in. My woodworking brings me closer to my Italian heritage. The madia that I produce is for pizza making. In my family pizza night brings everyone together. We make and proof the dough as a family, put on the sauce and cheese and bake it outside in our pizza oven. My six year old daughter is helping at every step. Pizza night brings us together and connects us.

The watercolor art I make is centered around nature and animals. I have always loved nature and this is my way of connecting to the beauty in the world around us. A lot of my designs are for decorating your nursery. This is such a special time for new families and it is an honor when my art can be part of that journey.

I am really excited that I can connect the selling and marketing of my art to amazing causes. One art series is dedicated to endangered species. I had as much fun creating the art as I did finding an amazing non-profit to donate part of the proceeds to. Another art series I have is dedicated to the conservation of spaces. As a teacher I got to work with the Mojave Desert Land Trust and that was the first group I wanted to support because I have seen first hand the amazing work that they do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love nature so I would have them get outdoors. I would take them to hike Torrey Pines and Elfin Forest. Both places showcase the natural beauty of San Diego. We would go to the Safari Park. I love animals and no other zoo lets you see animals in such a natural setting. We would go to breakfast at Dukes in Ja Jolla so that we could take in the coast, see seals and enjoy the beautiful weather. We would get coffee at Birdrock Coffee and Lofty Coffee. We’d eat pasta in Little Italy because my daughter loves Italian food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To start creating I had to believe in myself. I wouldn’t have been able to take that step without two important people. My wife has had unwavering belief in me. She is always right by my side offering encouragement and belief that I can achieve my goals. My brother has shown me and talked me through how to have faith in yourself. He has shown me how to try and keep trying until you get the result you are looking for. I wouldn’t have had the courage to start creating without a great love to inspire me and a hero to look up to.
